Get ready for a weekend trip to Stars Hollow.
Approximately a decade after the 2016 airing of Netflix’s “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” revival, Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham will be reuniting at the Emmy Awards scheduled for 2025.
Alongside actors such as Kristen Bell, Sofía Vergara, Walton Goggins, and Colman Domingo, it was announced on September 9 that these talented individuals will serve as presenters for the upcoming ceremony. This event is set to be hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 14.
Nine years have passed since they last walked a red carpet together, this time for Netflix’s reboot of the TV series originally broadcast by WB from 2000 to 2007. However, their infrequent public appearances don’t reflect the strong friendship between Lauren and Alexis that she openly discusses. They first became friends during the table read for the show.
In the hotel’s lobby, I encountered Alexis, and we found an instant connection that has remained strong over time,” the 58-year-old shared during his conversation with Alex Cooper on her ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast in April. “There was definitely a spark between us.
She stated, “We possess distinctly contrasting personalities. She tends to be more reserved and soft-spoken, a quality that has worked beautifully in our dynamic. If we were both boisterous individuals, the balance wouldn’t be ideal.
Lauren and Alexis, who have a common 9-year-old son with her former husband Vincent Kartheiser, have maintained a connection throughout their 25-year friendship.
Back in 2016, before the show’s comeback, Lauren expressed to People that her relationship with [her mother] was more akin to friends rather than the typical mother-daughter dynamic. She added that their age gap is actually smaller compared to those who played her children on “Parenthood”!
She went on to say, ‘I hold such high regard for her, not only as an actress but also as a person and a mother. I felt proud of how she managed her personal life, given its complexity. She values privacy deeply. At the time, we were both in different stages of our lives, but now we’ve both found more stability. It was quite refreshing to rekindle our connection.’
Before they meet again at the 2025 Emmy Awards, discover what’s in store – surprises and disappointments included – among this year’s contenders!
The television series “The Handmaid’s Tale” came to an end in May, following six seasons, with a climactic finale. However, the final episodes did not secure any nominations, despite the show having been nominated for 77 Emmy Awards throughout its run and winning 15 of them, including Outstanding Drama Series. This development is somewhat unexpected given the show’s past recognition.
In a different take, the director of “The Godfather” movie, despite receiving numerous accolades for his work behind the camera, garnered his initial acting recognition – in the guest category – with his brief appearance in the film “The Studio.
In the harsh Canadian winter, Yellowjackets didn’t receive any recognition this year despite their survival strategies involving rebellion and consuming each other which included acts like mutiny and cannibalism.
Although Andor received 14 nominations this year, its leading actor, Diego Luna, was not nominated for recognition within the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series category alongside Adam Scott, Sterling K. Brown, Gary Oldman, Noah Wyle, and Pedro Pascal.
Selena Gomez, much like her fellow actor Steve, wasn’t nominated for Only Murders in the Building, surprisingly, even though the show managed to secure a total of eight nominations, with Outstanding Comedy Series among them.
The Apple TV+ series, featuring Seth Rogen and Kathryn Hahn, received widespread praise upon its release and truly solidified its value with 23 nominations. Notably, the show was recognized as Outstanding Comedy Series, Ike Barinholtz won Outstanding Supporting Actor, and Seth Rogen took home Outstanding Lead Actor, among other accolades.
Although Harrison Ford has an extensive career in films, the esteemed Star Wars actor secured his very first Emmy nomination at the age of 83, in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series for the series Shrinking.
The final season of the HBO comedy-drama might have received positive criticism from critics, yet failed to secure significant award nominations. The show, featuring actors such as Danny McBride, Adam DeVine, and Edi Patterson in leading roles, only managed to receive recognition in technical categories, such as cinematography, music selection, and sound editing.
Despite not gaining massive online popularity compared to competitors like “The Pitt” and “The Studio”, the Hulu series still managed to secure nominations in key categories. Notably, it was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series, with Sterling K. Brown receiving a nod for Outstanding Lead Actor, James Marsden for Outstanding Supporting Actor, and Julianne Nicholson for Outstanding Supporting Actress.
Despite being hosted by Sean Evans, the series has solidified its place as a notable contribution in the realm of interviews. However, it surprisingly missed out on the nomination for the Outstanding Talk Series category.
Although “Black Mirror” has received numerous Emmy nominations since its debut in 2011, Rashida Jones made history by becoming the first actress to receive a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her performance on the show.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d say it this way: While I, Martin Short, was honored to receive the recognition for Outstanding Lead Actor In a Comedy Series for “Only Murders in the Building,” my on-screen partner Steve Martin was surprisingly overlooked in this year’s list.
This year has been extraordinarily successful for Bowen Yang. He made history by earning the most Emmy nominations among Asian male performers with a total of four, following his recognition in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category for Saturday Night Live (for which he was nominated in 2024, 2022, and 2021).
In addition to his role in “Wicked,” another actor has been recognized for his work in sketch comedy – Kenan Thompson. Notably, he’s been nominated six times for this category.
Although the Netflix series garnered an impressive 14 nominations, including Best Drama, at the 2022 Emmy Awards (becoming the first non-English series to achieve this), it surprisingly did not win in any category for its second season.
