When Escape from Tarkov first entered Early Access in 2017, it essentially created a new type of shooter game, inspiring popular titles like ARC Raiders. After eight years in development, players were starting to doubt whether the full version would ever arrive. Now, on November 15th, Escape from Tarkov is officially released—but the launch hasn’t gone smoothly.
Battlestate Games recently announced the official 1.0 release of Escape from Tarkov after a long wait, and fans are excited to see what’s new. The update includes improved graphics, additional end-game activities, and a variety of new weapons and gameplay features. However, with many new and returning players joining for the 1.0 launch, the game’s servers appear to be experiencing difficulties.
Escape from Tarkov Reviews Rename Game “Escape from Launcher” Amid Day-One Server Issues

After its official launch, Escape from Tarkov quickly gained a lot of new players on Steam. However, with around 21,000 people trying to play at once, the game received a wave of negative reviews. A major source of frustration for many players seems to be the game’s external launcher, which is the first thing most people encounter when trying to play.
One reviewer playfully called the game’s launcher “one of the most premium pieces of software” they’ve ever bought, appreciating its color scheme. However, many other players have had a very different experience. Numerous reviews simply say “Escape from Launcher,” highlighting the frustration of spending hours just trying to get the game to start. One player reported spending all 5.8 hours they’ve played of Escape from Tarkov just trying to get past the launcher screen.
Players have been reporting problems with maintenance messages, which likely means Battlestate Games knows about the launch issues and is trying to fix them. Server problems with new updates have been common during the game’s Early Access period, so this isn’t entirely unexpected. While it’s frustrating that these issues weren’t resolved before the full launch of Escape from Tarkov, it suggests things should improve within a day or so.

The official release of Escape from Tarkov on Steam has had a rocky beginning, but many players who’ve been following the game in Early Access are still optimistic. One veteran player believes it will be great “once everything settles down in a few hours.” Hopefully, players will soon be able to fully enjoy the game.
You can now play Escape from Tarkov on PC through Steam. The standard version costs $49.99, but it’s currently 15% off until November 29th.
