These euphoric delights have truly violent ends. 

Okay, so like, Euphoria just finished its latest season on May 31st and I’m still reeling! Seriously, Sam Levinson just gets it. And seeing Rue, Zendaya is just phenomenal, finally… well, she faces some seriously tough stuff. It was heartbreaking, honestly. The whole cast – Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Jacob Elordi – they all just blew me away, but Zendaya… she really carried this season. It was intense!

If you’ve been watching all season, you’ll remember the finale began right after Rue and Faye broke into Laurie’s safe. Things quickly went downhill for Rue when Faye told Wayne about the break-in. It looked like Rue was finally going to be caught – she was held by one of Wayne’s associates – until a gunshot from G helped her get away.

After everything she went through, I have to admit, I understand why she accepted the Percocet from Alamo (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). It’s a natural reaction to want to numb the pain, and honestly, taking a whole bottle from the club owner? That speaks to a deeper need to escape, and it’s a really concerning pattern I often see when someone is struggling to cope.

Rue’s secret work with the DEA reaches a critical point when they raid Laurie’s property. Wayne and Faye manage to escape right before the authorities arrive. Faced with capture and imprisonment, Laurie tragically takes her own life by hanging herself.

The following morning, Rue discovers that Fezco (Angus Cloud) has escaped from prison and is on his way to find her. While trying to reach him, she goes past police barricades and runs, experiencing flashbacks of both Jules (Hunter Schafer) and Fezco along the way. She eventually makes it back to her childhood home and is reunited with her mother, Leslie (Nika King).

Ultimately, the entire scene is revealed to be a dream. In reality, Ali (Colman Domingo) wakes up to find Rue has died on his couch. She overdosed after taking one of Ali’s Percocets, which he later tests and discovers contained fentanyl. This loss plunges him into deep despair and rage—we’ll explore that further shortly.

Jules (Hunter Schafer) had a small role in the finale, where she expressed her sadness over a former classmate through a powerful painting.

Following Nate’s death in the second-to-last episode, Cassie and Maddy decide to transform the house they shared with him into a location for adult content creation, housing various creators. They ask Lexi to direct the content, but she refuses, staying true to her principles.

Ali, driven by anger over the ongoing drug overdoses of those he’s trying to save, goes to Alamo’s strip club to kill the man responsible for Rue’s death. The confrontation plays out like a classic Western, and Ali succeeds because Bishop secretly removes the bullets from Alamo’s gun.

Following a difficult and violent experience, Ali finds safety and calm by staying with the family who once helped Rue.

After a four-year wait, the third season finale—potentially the show’s last—delivered a satisfying conclusion to the drama series. The show has featured Eric Dane, Storm Reid, and Barbie Ferreira throughout its run.

That’s precisely what Levinson was aiming for—as we discussed before, he wanted to move away from the typical high school storylines established in the first two seasons.

Levinson recently told Esquire that people are facing genuine consequences in the current environment. He described it as a ‘Wild West’ situation where success is possible, but you’re fully responsible for the results of your actions – there’s no safety net to fall back on.

As their characters gained popularity with audiences, the actors themselves became major stars. Euphoria really launched their careers. This year, Jacob Elordi received an Oscar nomination for Frankenstein after gaining recognition as Nate, and Zendaya has already won two Emmys for her role as Rue. Sydney Sweeney also earned an Emmy nomination and has received praise for producing successful films since the show began.

Reflecting on her time with the show, Sweeney told Variety that it’s been a significant part of her life, essentially her entire twenties. She described her co-stars as a second family and expressed deep gratitude for their support and friendship.

Zendaya, known for starting her career on Disney, recently shared that she credits the show with a great deal of her success as she prepared for its final season.

Oh my god, Euphoria just completely wrecked me, in the best way possible! Seriously, it felt like someone opened up my chest. Rue… she just got to me. I learned so much from her, about understanding other people, and about the possibility of getting a second chance. I know it sounds crazy, but she really did teach me a lot, and I’m just so thankful for everything about that show and her story.
