Eric Dane is widely recognized for playing Dr. Mark Sloan on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, a role he held from seasons three to nine, with a return appearance in season seventeen. Before Grey’s, he began his television career in the 1990s with parts on The Wonder Years and Roseanne, and later appeared on Charmed for two seasons. Following his time on Grey’s, he led the cast of TNT’s action series The Last Ship for five seasons.

Dane recently gained recognition for his role as Cal Jacobs in HBO’s popular series, Euphoria. He played the strict and emotionally distant father of Nate, who was secretly struggling with his sexuality and seeking anonymous encounters online. Dane appeared in the first two seasons of the show and is scheduled to return for the third and final season, premiering on April 12th.

Playing Cal has been incredibly liberating for me, honestly. It’s a really demanding role – there’s a lot to unpack and people definitely have expectations. Because Cal is such a complex and vulnerable guy, constantly walking the line between right and wrong, I really felt the pressure to get everything just right. I didn’t want him to be misinterpreted; I wanted to show the human side of him, and I really hope that comes through in the performance.

In addition to his work on television, Dane Cook appeared in a few notable films. He played Jamie Madrox, also known as Multiple Man, in the 2006 movie X-Men: The Last Stand, and in 2024, he starred as James McGrath in Bad Boys: Ride or Die. McGrath was a former Army Ranger who became a criminal and the film’s primary villain.

Our thoughts go out to Dane’s friends and family during this time.
