Get ready, Vienna! It’s Eurovision time! The exciting semi-finals begin tonight, marking the return of Europe’s biggest music event – and this year is its 70th anniversary!
Tonight, May 12th, the first 15 performers will take the stage and compete for a chance to advance to the grand final.
Just ten places are available, meaning anything can happen tonight. Italy and Germany, two of the major competing countries, will also be performing.
Tonight’s show starts with a look back at Eurovision’s history, spanning the last seven decades. A short film will tell the story of a couple whose lives unfold alongside the iconic competition.
UK viewers can tune in to the competition starting at 8pm, with Rylan Clark and Angela Scanlon providing the commentary.

The Eurovision Song Contest has received a lot of criticism for letting Israel compete this year, given the current war happening in Gaza.
Several countries are choosing not to participate in this year’s contest because the organization in charge, the European Broadcasting Union, decided against excluding Israel from the event.
In December 2025, the EBU held a meeting where members voted to create rules preventing governments or outside groups from unfairly boosting certain songs to sway voting results. However, they did not vote on whether Israel would be allowed to participate.
The EBU announced that most of its members decided another vote on participation wasn’t necessary, and the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest will go ahead as scheduled with extra safety measures.
After this announcement, Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Iceland all stated they would not be competing in Eurovision this year.
Ireland’s public broadcaster, RTÉ, has decided not to participate in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest due to the ongoing and devastating loss of life and humanitarian crisis in Gaza. RTÉ believes it would be inappropriate to participate while civilians continue to be at risk.
The BBC, the UK broadcaster for the competition, stated its support for the EBU’s decision. According to a BBC statement, the decision is about upholding the rules and ensuring inclusivity.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 final will take place on Saturday 16 May 2026.
