Even the Meta Quest can be an Xbox—Leaked images show an Xbox branded Quest 3S that could shadow drop in just a few days

It seems that the uproar about Xbox not entering the virtual reality market might turn out to be unnecessary, since a recently removed post on X (previously known as Twitter) displayed photos of an Xbox-labeled Oculus Quest. This image was subsequently shared by @bmfshow.

Previously, Windows Central hinted at an anticipated Xbox VR headset in 2024, but it looks like you might be able to purchase it ahead of schedule on June 24 for a reasonable price of $399. This revelation comes shortly after Xbox’s announcement of their partnership with Asus to launch the Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X handheld gaming devices. Interestingly, earlier reports suggested that Xbox’s own attempts at a first-party handheld console, codenamed Project Kennan, had been put on hold.

As Gamesandwich.com reports, the Xbox-branded Quest 3S in black and green is scheduled to launch on June 24 at a price point of $399. This headset is said to provide 128GB of standard system memory, much like the standard Meta Quest 3S, but without the Xbox branding. The package is expected to include a virtual reality headset, an Elite Strap, an Xbox wireless controller, and three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Previously, Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft’s gaming division, had openly expressed his skepticism about the need for an Xbox-specific headset, asserting in 2019 that there wasn’t much demand for VR on Xbox. However, as the marketing approach for the Xbox Series X|S generation has evolved with the growth of Xbox Cloud Gaming and the “This is an Xbox” campaign, certain Xbox games have been made compatible with Meta Quest VR headsets through cloud gaming. It seems plausible that cloud streaming will remain integral, even with any potential future Xbox-branded device.

Ever since I shared the “This is an Xbox” vision, my passion for gaming has grown even more as I’ve seen Xbox broaden its horizons. It’s not just about consoles and Windows PCs anymore – it’s a whole universe encompassing mobile devices, smart TVs, VR headsets, and handhelds!
