Everwild Screenshots Leak, Showcasing UI, World and Characters – Rumour

So, Rare’s *Everwild* got cancelled, which was a bummer, and we didn’t get to see much of it. But recently, some screenshots popped up online! Apparently, they came from an artist who worked on the game, and what’s really interesting is these pics are from a pretty late version of the game – close to when they decided to pull the plug. It’s cool to finally get a little peek at what *Everwild* could have been.

As expected, the images are from an early, unfinished version of *Everwild*, likely taken well before the game was released. They show us different parts of the game’s interface, and give a preview of what the world and characters were planned to look like. One image even displays the graphics settings menu, though with temporary, default values.

The game *Everwild* appeared to focus heavily on interacting with and caring for its natural environment, judging by the user interface. A large part of the UI was dedicated to the player’s inventory, which currently uses temporary names for items like seeds, tools, and something called “figments.” Although the exact purpose of these items isn’t known, there also seemed to be items called “Mosaics,” potentially used for decorative things like art or statues.

Reports surfaced in July that Microsoft cancelled the game *Everwild* as part of a larger layoff affecting over 9,000 employees. The cancellation was accompanied by significant restructuring at Rare, the game’s developer. While details have been limited, Rare has since announced a new strategy for releasing content for their popular game, *Sea of Thieves*.

Rare announced in July that they’re updating how they create content for *Sea of Thieves*. They also confirmed the return of the Insider Program, which will allow players to test upcoming features and content in 2026.

The studio announced this is just the beginning of seeking more feedback from the community. Starting next season, they plan to hold a “Seasonal Big Listen” with members of their Insider Programme. This will involve asking players about their experience with recent content, as well as the overall game – including performance, issues with cheaters, bugs, and how much they’re enjoying the game.

This will help us understand how players feel over time and pinpoint areas where we can improve our game with new content or features. As part of our commitment to openness, we’ll be sharing the survey results with you all.

Last September, Microsoft revealed that Louise O’Connor, formerly the executive producer of *Everwild*, would become the head of staff for all of Xbox Game Studios. O’Connor has a long history with Rare, having worked there for 25 years and contributed to games like the 2001 title *Conker’s Bad Fur Day* and many others they’ve created.
