2026 is shaping up to be a huge year for superhero movies, with major releases planned from both Marvel and DC. These two studios consistently generate a lot of buzz, but 2026’s lineup could be particularly impactful. After films like Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps in 2025, both the DC Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe will compete again next summer with Supergirl and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Later in the year, Clayface will debut, leading into the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday.
Four superhero movies are coming out in 2026, and while they all promise to be crowd-pleasers and spark conversations among fans, they range from mildly anticipated to incredibly hyped.
4) Clayface

Currently, the upcoming Clayface movie is considered the least anticipated of the 2026 DCU films, mainly because so little is known about it. The film will star Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen/Clayface, an actor who transforms into a clay-like being after a procedure to fix his disfigurement. While plot details are scarce, the first live-action adaptation of this comic book villain is promising. The project’s writer, horror specialist Mike Flanagan, is a major draw, and Clayface’s connection to Batman in the comics could significantly impact the future Batman movie. As more information is released, Clayface is expected to generate more buzz, but for now, it’s trailing behind the other announced films in terms of excitement.
Clayface arrives in theaters on September 11, 2026.
3) Supergirl

Milly Alcock’s appearance as Supergirl in Superman was a great way to introduce the character before she gets her own movie. The first trailer for Supergirl looks very promising, showing Kara embarking on a revenge-fueled journey across the galaxy with her dog, Krypto, after her home planet is destroyed. The preview suggests an exciting story with plenty of action, humor, and space exploration. Alcock seems perfectly cast, already capturing Kara’s spirited personality. Supergirl has the potential to expand the DC Universe more than Superman did, and will likely set the stage for future films like Man of Tomorrow. It’s easy to get excited about Supergirl, but two other superhero movies coming out in 2026 also deserve attention.
Supergirl releases in theaters on June 26, 2026.
2) Spider-Man: Brand New Day

It will be challenging to follow the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), but Spider-Man: Brand New Day could be another hit for Marvel fans. Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is directing this fifth Spider-Man film, and his talent for action choreography should make for exciting fight scenes. Tom Holland has proven to be a fantastic Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and his performance is expected to be strong in this next movie.
Okay, so here’s what’s really getting me excited about this new Spider-Man project, Brand New Day. It sounds like they’re going for a more grounded, street-level story, and they’re bringing in some seriously popular characters – Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, and potentially even Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova. Details are still pretty tight-lipped, honestly, so it’s hard to say exactly what we’re in for. But let’s be real, Spider-Man movies almost always deliver, and that’s why expectations for Brand New Day are through the roof – and rightfully so.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31, 2026.
1) Avengers: Doomsday

It’s safe to say that any new Avengers movie is always the most eagerly awaited superhero film of the year. Avengers: Doomsday will be the first Avengers film in seven years, and it has a lot to live up to after the massive success of Avengers: Endgame. The movie promises the full debut of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, plus the return of familiar faces like Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain America (Chris Evans), as well as the X-Men and other heroes. Fans can also expect a deeper dive into the multiverse, setting the stage for Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
The future of this film franchise is on the line after a string of disappointing movies and frustrated fans. Longtime Marvel fans are really hoping this new film, Doomsday, will recapture the excitement and scale of past Avengers movies. Even though the story feels a bit weak and the movie is packed with characters, Doomsday is generating more buzz than any other superhero film coming out in 2026.
Avengers: Doomsday will open in theaters on December 18, 2026.
