The upcoming DCU film, Man of Tomorrow, is already generating a lot of excitement. Set to release on July 9, 2027, it’s the second installment in James Gunn’s planned “Superman Saga,” following the movie Superman. The film will feature a major new threat to Earth, compelling former rivals to team up and try to protect humanity.
Although filming is scheduled to begin early next year, DC Studios hasn’t yet revealed the complete cast for Man of Tomorrow. However, some familiar faces from previous DC Universe movies will be returning to their roles. Here’s a list of everyone confirmed to appear in Man of Tomorrow when it arrives in theaters in 2027.
Nicholas Hoult Takes Center Stage as Lex Luthor
Lex Luthor will be back as a major character in Man of Tomorrow, but his situation has changed. After his evil plans were revealed in Superman, Lex was publicly shamed and imprisoned, seemingly ending his career as a villain. However, events in Season 2 of Peacemaker saw him unexpectedly team up with Rick Flag, which has restored his standing with the government. He’s now working with A.R.G.U.S. and, heading into Man of Tomorrow, is no longer held at Belle Reve prison and continues to collaborate closely with Flag.
James Gunn has announced that the upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow, will surprisingly team up Lex Luthor and Superman. These longtime rivals will have to work together when a new, major threat endangers Earth. Whatever this threat is, it must be incredibly dangerous to make Lex Luthor set aside his animosity towards Superman. Luthor is expected to have a much larger part in Man of Tomorrow than he did in previous Superman movies, even becoming one of the film’s main characters.
David Corenswet Soars Again as Superman
Now that David Corenswet has been introduced as Superman, he’s expected to be a central figure in the future of DC films. Although Superman will return in movies like Supergirl, Corenswet’s next confirmed role is in the 2027 film Man of Tomorrow. While Man of Tomorrow continues Superman’s story, it won’t be a direct sequel to the first film, and will likely feature other heroes and villains, such as Lex Luthor, alongside Superman.
I’m so hyped for Man of Tomorrow! Apparently, it’s going to be wild seeing Superman team up with Lex Luthor. From what I’ve seen of the concept art, Superman is actually going to help Luthor build his battle armor – which, honestly, seems like a bad idea considering Luthor’s, well, Luthor! It’s not a direct continuation of the last Superman movie, but we’re definitely going to learn a lot more about David Corenswet’s version of the Man of Steel when this one comes out.
Rachel Brosnahan Has a Pivotal Role as Lois Lane
Lois Lane, the celebrated reporter, is diving back into the world of superheroes, with Rachel Brosnahan reprising her role in Man of Tomorrow. The DC Universe has established Lois as a fascinating character who champions truth and justice through her reporting, even without superpowers. A key part of her story is realizing that a positive outlook can be surprisingly powerful.
James Gunn has hinted that Lois Lane will play a significant part in the upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow, but details are still being kept under wraps. Viewers can anticipate that Lois will be central to the story. Considering her naturally inquisitive and cautious nature, she’s likely to be skeptical of Superman’s alliance with Lex Luthor and may ultimately uncover Luthor’s true motives.
Milly Alcock Is Expected To Return as Supergirl
Milly Alcock first appeared as Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) at the end of the Superman movie, hinting at a bigger part for her in the DC Universe. She’ll be back next summer starring in her own Supergirl movie, and even before that, she’s scheduled to appear in Man of Tomorrow in 2027, where she’s expected to be a key character.
While James Gunn hasn’t directly said Supergirl will be in Man of Tomorrow, there’s growing evidence she will be. As the DC Universe expands the world around Superman, it makes sense to show more of his relationship with his cousin. Man of Tomorrow would be a perfect setting for them to team up, especially since both characters will have already had their own individual stories over the past two years. Gunn has also hinted at a significant role for Supergirl in the DCU, implying she’ll be involved in major events like the one in the upcoming film. Plus, actress Milly Alcock is currently listed in the film’s cast on IMDb, which, although not official, suggests she’ll be appearing in Man of Tomorrow.
Isabela Merced Will Return as Hawkgirl
Isabela Merced first appeared as the DC superhero Hawkgirl (also known as Kendra Saunders) in the movie Superman, hinting at a bigger role for the character later on. Hawkgirl is part of the Justice Gang, a team of heroes funded by the wealthy businessman Max Lord. In Superman, she and her teammates help Superman fight Lex Luthor. Later, it’s shown that the Justice Gang is looking for new members to expand their team.
Jenna Merced has confirmed she’ll be in Man of Tomorrow after responding to James Gunn’s announcement on social media. Gunn’s reply of “see you soon” all but confirms her role. This news leads many to believe other members of the Justice Gang might also appear, potentially including Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and Sean Gunn as Max Lord.
María Gabriela de Faría Will Most Likely Return as the Engineer
María Gabriela de Faría played the villain Angela Spica, also known as the Engineer, in the movie Superman. She teamed up with Lex Luthor and Ultraman, but was ultimately defeated by Superman, and her ultimate fate wasn’t revealed in the film. However, director James Gunn hinted in the movie’s audio commentary that we’ll find out what happened to the Engineer in the next installment, suggesting she’ll appear in Man of Tomorrow as well.
Season 2 of Peacemaker shows that A.R.G.U.S. has hired several people who used to work for Lex Luthor, like Otis Berg and Sydney Happerson, as consultants. Even though the Engineer isn’t in Peacemaker, she might have been part of a deal Lex Luthor made with Rick Flag. This could lead to her appearing in Man of Tomorrow, where we might learn more about her and why she dislikes Superman. The movie could also introduce The Authority, a team that includes the Engineer and was originally planned by James Gunn for the DC Universe.
Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. Will Return in Man of Tomorrow
Rick Flag Sr. is quickly becoming a key player in the DC Universe, even without superpowers. After taking over as director of A.R.G.U.S. from Amanda Waller, he’s dedicated to preventing metahumans from gaining too much power. His actions in Peacemaker Season 2, including making a significant deal, hint that he might become an opponent to heroes in future projects like Man of Tomorrow.
The new movie, Man of Tomorrow, will explore the connection between Rick Flag and Lex Luthor, and reveal more about Salvation – the metahuman prison first seen in the Peacemaker finale. Because of his role at A.R.G.U.S., Flag is also expected to be the one who brings Lex Luthor and Superman together as allies in the film.
Other Actors to Expect in Man of Tomorrow
Although DC has confirmed some returning actors for Man of Tomorrow, the complete cast remains a secret. However, several actors are likely to appear, with Aaron Pierre being a strong possibility. He’s debuting as Green Lantern John Stewart in the Lanterns series on HBO Max and reacted to the Man of Tomorrow announcement with a green heart emoji, hinting at his involvement. Other new heroes, like Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan, and the still-uncast Batman, could also make an appearance in this team-up movie.
The upcoming film Man of Tomorrow will likely include several characters from the Superman universe. We can expect to see the Daily Planet team back, with Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Wendell Pierce as Perry White. The henchmen of Lex Luthor, who reappeared in Season 2 of Peacemaker, are also expected to make an appearance. Plus, the movie will introduce many new characters to the DCU as it expands the universe with beloved figures from the comic books.
