Let’s be honest, when we talk about the Avengers, our minds immediately jump to Captain America and Iron Man – they’re the faces of the team, constantly saving the day. But as a critic, I’ve been thinking: we really underestimate the later additions. Falcon and Captain Marvel both brought serious power to the table, absolutely. However, for me, one hero stands out as *especially* crucial, and it’s not just about his abilities. Black Panther doesn’t just fight for the world, he carries the weight of an entire nation on his shoulders. He’s a game-changer, and the Avengers are undeniably better with him on the roster.
T’Challa, or Black Panther, consistently stands out as the most memorable character in any story he’s in. His primary goal is always the safety and prosperity of Wakanda, so it’s fitting that he’s appeared in several animated series and films. Here’s a ranking of all the animated versions of Black Panther.
10) Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow
The animated film *Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow* imagines a future where the original Avengers have all passed away, defeated by Ultron. Their children then step up to protect the world from Ultron’s robotic rule. Although T’Challa and Ororo Munroe’s son, Azari, fights bravely and even becomes the Black Panther, his father isn’t alive to witness his accomplishments, making this version of the story the one that ultimately stands out.
9) The Super Hero Squad Show
Everyone who talks about *The Super Hero Squad Show* immediately praises its fantastic theme song. However, beyond that, the show itself doesn’t offer much. Black Panther makes occasional appearances, but he doesn’t have a significant role. Although Taye Diggs does a great job with his voice acting, the character of the king of Wakanda lacks depth.
8) Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers
Even though the show *Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers* focuses on heroes being trapped inside special items called DISKs and only appearing when summoned, Black Panther is surprisingly active. He fights enemies who threaten Wakanda, like Tiger Shark and Diamondback. However, he often loses these battles before being sent back into a DISK to become part of another hero’s power. Ultimately, Black Panther’s performance in *Marvel Disk Wars* isn’t strong enough to make him stand out.
7) Iron Man: Armored Adventures
I always thought it was a brilliant move to bring Black Panther into the *Iron Man: Armored Adventures* series, even though they seem like such different heroes! What really connects them, I think, is their shared love of science and technology. It was exciting to see them team up when someone stole vibranium from Wakanda, and their partnership really blossomed during the Makluan invasion. This Black Panther isn’t exactly known for being warm and fuzzy, but it’s cool to see him realize that having friends and working together can actually be a good thing – it doesn’t weaken him at all!
6) Ultimate Avengers II
In *Ultimate Avengers II*, Wakanda faces a major crisis when the Chitauri invade and take over, leaving T’Challa without a position of power. The Avengers arrive to assist, and Black Panther must once again learn to collaborate with the team. This version of Black Panther is unique because he has to deal with a Chitauri impersonating him and committing terrible crimes while appearing to be him. Despite this challenge, he remains calm, knowing he’ll have an opportunity to retaliate.
5) MAU Black Panther
Black Panther’s very first animated appearance was in the *Fantastic Four* cartoon, where he asks for their help to defeat Klaw. He even battles the Fantastic Four to gauge their abilities. After that, he teams up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in *Avengers: United They Stand*. Although T’Challa doesn’t appear much throughout the Marvel animated series, his early roles were important and paved the way for how the character would be portrayed later on.
4) Black Panther
Marvel has an animated series about Black Panther that many people haven’t discovered. Created in partnership with BET, the show functions like a digital comic, introducing both the hero and his nation of Wakanda. While the story isn’t groundbreaking, it effectively showcases Black Panther as he juggles the responsibilities of being a hero and a king. The voice acting by Djimon Hounsou is a major highlight and makes the series worth watching.
3) The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes
When it comes to animated versions of the Avengers, *The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes* stands out as the best, and Black Panther plays a key role in that. The show doesn’t just make him a team member—it gives him dedicated storylines that develop his character more deeply than most other adaptations. By the series’ end, Black Panther is portrayed as equally important and powerful as Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man.
2) Avengers Assemble
I always felt like *Avengers Assemble* didn’t quite get the praise *Earth’s Mightiest Heroes* did, but when it comes to Black Panther, it totally shines! I really loved seeing T’Challa step up as a leader – he actually *forms* the New Avengers after the first team breaks up. It’s just fantastic to see him in that role, and honestly, having a whole season focused on his stories and adventures made it even better.
1) What If…?/Marvel Zombies
Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is undoubtedly the most impactful version of the character, resonating with audiences thanks to the films’ success. He beautifully continued the role in the animated series *What If…?*, seamlessly fitting into compelling new stories – including a memorable take where Black Panther becomes Star-Lord. Later, *Marvel Zombies* gave the character one final, heroic moment, with a selfless sacrifice to save the universe, cementing his place as the definitive Black Panther.
