It’s a real challenge for a sidekick to become truly independent and escape the influence of their mentor. They often remain secondary characters, largely because stories rarely dedicate enough time to developing their own narratives. There are exceptions, though. Nightwing, for instance, spent years fighting alongside Batman as Robin before establishing his own identity. Several other former Robins attempted solo careers, but none achieved the same level of success as Dick Grayson. In fact, there’s only one other character from Batman’s world in the DC Universe who has managed to break free from being defined by their original role in quite the same way.
The Joker constantly challenges the Dark Knight through various avenues, but he often needs assistance from henchmen or other villains who support his plans. However, his most significant partner is Harley Quinn. Whatâs particularly fascinating about Harley is that her story didnât begin in comic books – it originated in animation.
Hereâs every animated version of Harley, ranked.
12) Teen Titans Go!

Just because someone is well-known doesnât necessarily mean theyâre the center of attention. Teen Titans Go! primarily follows the adventures of the young heroes of the Teen Titans, and occasionally includes brief appearances by famous characters from DC Comics. Harley Quinn appears a couple of times in the series, but she only has lines in one episode, and that episode doesnât really delve into who she is as a character.
11) Batwheels

With so many different Batman series available, the creators sometimes need to think outside the box. In Batwheels, the vehicles used by the Bat-Family magically come to life and work together to fight crime in Gotham City. The threats arenât limited to small-time criminals, however; even villains like Harley Quinn have their own impressive vehicles. Similar to Teen Titans Go!, Harley Quinn doesnât have a major role in Batwheels, but her special ATV, Jestah, makes her stand out.
10) Batman: The Brave and the Bold

Many shows don’t allow Harley Quinn to be her own person, often keeping her connected to the Joker. Batman: The Brave and the Bold directly addresses this, but goes all in. Harley dedicates a whole episode to battling with Bat-Mite to rescue her love interest from Joker-Mite, clearly demonstrating her unwavering devotion.
9) LEGO Harley Quinn

The LEGO Batman Movie is likely one of the most overlooked films featuring Batman. Itâs both humorous and genuinely touching, and it explores new territory for the character. Harley Quinn has a brief but significant part, cleverly convincing Batman to utilize the Phantom Zone. However, the movie focuses much more on the Joker than on her storyline.
8) Justice League Action

I really enjoyed seeing Harley Quinn in Justice League Action. What struck me most was how confident she was, even when the Joker wasnât influencing her. She popped up a few times, teaming up with Poison Ivy, which was fun. But the *best* thing about this take on Harley? She genuinely sees herself as Batmanâs biggest foe, and sheâs constantly trying to break him – to push the Dark Knight to his absolute limit. It’s a clever twist and makes her a really compelling villain.
7) Batman Ninja

It really pays to be persistent, and no one proves that better than Batman Ninjaâs Harley. In the animated film, she teams up with the Joker to try and conquer Japan after finding herself transported there. Even losing her memories doesn’t stop her from continuing the fight-or, in her case, getting back into the giant robot!
6) The Batman

Instead of being a doctor at Arkham Asylum, Harley Quinn has a talk show in The Batman where callers share their issues. When she loses her job, she falls into a downward spiral and reconnects with the Joker, joining his plan to defeat Batman. But Harley wants the chaos to continue, and she actively works to protect Batmanâs secret identity, doing whatever it takes to keep the conflict going.
5) Suicide Squad Isekai

It suits Harley Quinn well to be the main character in an anime. Suicide Squad Isekai places Harley with Task Force X and moves her to a fantasy world she’s tasked with protecting. Although she still has feelings for the Joker, she develops leadership skills and forms bonds with her fellow team members. Things look promising for this version of the Batman foe.
4) Batman: Caped Crusader

I’m really enjoying Batman: Caped Crusader – it’s doing things differently, particularly with Harley Quinn. What’s fascinating is that, unlike most versions I’ve seen, Harleen Quinzel becomes Harley all on her own, thinking she can actually *help* her patients with this new persona. It’s refreshing to finally see a show that doesn’t automatically put Harley in the villain role – it’s a side of her we rarely get to see.
3) DCAMU Harey Quinn

Harley begins her story in the DC Animated Movie Universe as part of the Suicide Squad, quickly becoming a vital member of the team. Following Amanda Wallerâs passing, she steps up as a leader, playing a key role in the battle against Darkseidâs armies in Justice League: Apokolips War. Her ultimate sacrifice while fighting for whatâs right makes the DCAMU version of Harley the most heroic portrayal of the character.
2) Batman: The Animated Series

Batman: The Animated Series showcases what many consider the definitive animated portrayal of Batman, brought to life by the incredible voice of Kevin Conroy. But when Tara Strongâs Harley Quinn appears, she often steals the show. Right from her very first scene, Harley quickly establishes herself as one of DCâs greatest villains, constantly causing trouble for Batman and his allies.
1) Harley Quinn

Itâs no surprise that the animated version of Harley is at the top of this list. DCâs Harley Quinn creates a world where the main character can truly be herself, freely indulging in mayhem and speaking her mind. Kaley Cuocoâs voice acting is also impressive, bringing a Harley to life who is confident, knows exactly what she wants, and isn’t afraid to show it.
