Every Cameo in Wonder Man Explained

Beyond the musical featured in Hawkeye, the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t often shown how Hollywood works within its world. We know movies are made, but we rarely see actual filming or hear about production. That changed with Wonder Man, which gave us a detailed look at the MCU’s version of Hollywood. It’s surprisingly similar to our own, aside from some unique industry rules. We also learned that some real-world celebrities exist within the MCU’s Earth-616. However, it seems these stars won’t be appearing in Marvel movies, either by name or in person.

The story features a lot of famous people, including actors like Matthew McConaughey, Sarah Paulson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Robert De Niro, as well as athletes Eli and Peyton Manning. Directors like Christopher Nolan and Paul Thomas Anderson also appear. There’s even a hint that characters from the DC Universe, like Black Adam, might exist within this world. We also find out that the movie Midnight Cowboy is known here, meaning actors Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight, and director John Schlesinger, are part of this reality too. Now, let’s take a look at who actually makes an appearance on screen.

Spoilers for Wonder Man follow.

4) Ashley Greene

Ashley Greene, known from Twilight, makes an appearance in the premiere of “Matinee.” Simon Williams was looking forward to his brief role on American Horror Story, but he repeatedly questioned his character and suggested changes – even though he only had one line. Ashley Greene shares the scene with him, and by the end of it, she still has her job while he does not.

3) Josh Gad

In the fourth episode, “Doorman,” Olaf’s voice actor, Josh Gad, plays a key role. While performing at a club, his character accidentally starts a fire. Luckily, the club’s doorman, DeMarr Davis, saves everyone inside. Davis gained the ability to phase through objects after an encounter with toxic waste and another dimension, allowing people to pass through him – and a locked door – to escape the fire.

Gad initially hires Davis as a bodyguard, quickly earning him the nickname ‘Doorman’ from the media and fans. Gad then helps Davis launch an acting career, making him a huge star. However, Davis’s fame doesn’t last, and in a twist of fate, Gad becomes trapped in the same dimension Davis was once imprisoned in—a dimension filled with doors. This incident leads to the creation of the ‘Doorman Clause,’ which explains why Simon is concealing his own abilities.

2) Mario Lopez

Mario Lopez makes a cameo in the same episode as Gad, playfully mentioning his part as LeFou in Beauty and the Beast and teasing his upcoming movie, the comedy-thriller Cash Grab. He appears as the host of a show called Hot Goss, a nod to his long history of hosting entertainment news programs like Extra and Access Hollywood.

1) Joe Pantoliano

Joe Pantoliano, known from The Matrix, appears in two episodes: the second and the finale. In the second episode, Simon praises The Matrix and Pantoliano jokes about being called “Joey Pants.” More significantly, we find out Pantoliano and Trevor Slattery have history. They both worked on a TV show, and Slattery feels Pantoliano stole the main role. However, Pantoliano claims Slattery was heavily intoxicated at the time and was rambling about seeing “white worms” on his skin.

By the end of the episode, Pantoliano delivers a speech that comes across as patronizing, particularly to Slattery. Simon brilliantly calls him out on it by mentioning how bad the movie Baby’s Day Out is – a funny point because Pantoliano has posters for it all over his house. In the final episode, “Yucca Valley,” Slattery pretends to be his Mandarin character again and claims responsibility for an explosion that Simon actually caused. This leads to him being replaced on Wonder Man by – you guessed it – Pantoliano.
