Marvel is going all-out to promote the new Avengers: Doomsday movie. Instead of releasing one big trailer showing off Doctor Doom and the team led by Sam Wilson, they’re dropping four short teasers before Avatar: Fire and Ash comes out. The first teaser is already playing in cinemas and it’s quite a surprise! It starts with a mysterious motorcyclist whose face isn’t clear. But when he arrives home and picks up a Captain America suit, it’s revealed: Steve Rogers is coming back to fight in Doomsday.
Look, it’s clear Steve can’t just jump back into the Captain America role – Sam’s earned that spot, and after everything he’s done, he deserves the space. It’s great that Steve has other options though! I’ve been reading about all the different codenames he could use in the upcoming Doomsday story, and it’s interesting to see what else he might become.
3) The Captain

Similar to his portrayal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the comic book Captain America doesn’t simply obey orders without question. There’s an instance where a government agency, the Commission on Superhuman Activities, attempts to control Captain America and dictate his actions. Steve refuses to accept this control and steps down as Captain America, allowing John Walker to take on the role. However, he’s still determined to fight for what’s right, so he adopts the identity of “The Captain” and wears a black-and-red suit that would eventually influence the design of John Walker’s U.S. Agent uniform.
It’s doubtful the live-action Captain America will get a new costume, but changing his superhero name to remove ‘America’ could be a good idea. He earned the title during World War II within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and hasn’t had the opportunity for further advancement since then.
2) Nomad

Following the release of Captain America: Civil War, when Steve Rogers retired his Captain America shield, many fans predicted he’d become “Nomad” in Avengers: Infinity War. While he did step away from the Captain America role for a time, he never officially adopted that name. The upcoming Doomsday storyline could finally give him the chance to be known as Nomad.
As a long-time Captain America fan, I always found the Nomad storyline fascinating – seeing Steve Rogers lose faith in the government and walk away was a bold move. The recent Doomsday teaser doesn’t hint at him becoming Nomad again, but honestly, if anyone could shake Cap’s unwavering belief in things, it’s Doom. Maybe whatever Doctor Doom is planning will be so destabilizing that it pushes Steve to question everything and forge a different path. Though, I’m secretly hoping we don’t see him running around as Nomad again – that costume never quite felt right!
1) Steve

The upcoming movie, Doomsday, won’t likely feature heroes arguing over minor details. Doctor Doom will be a major threat, demanding the heroes focus entirely on saving the multiverse. Therefore, a straightforward approach might be best for Steve Rogers, formerly Captain America.
Because many of the heroes in Doomsday already know Steve personally, they’ll likely adjust to the situation without much trouble. Everyone else should be able to catch on quickly too. It might also help Steve get back to normal if he doesn’t immediately jump back into being a superhero – maybe by avoiding a new alias.
Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 19, 2025.
