Every Confirmed Superhero in the DCU From Weakest to Strongest

Let’s discuss an exciting development: James Gunn’s fresh start for the DC Universe brings a new chapter to superhero movies, introducing a richly detailed universe filled with a variety of heroes and villains. Since the debut film, Superman, the DCU has hinted at its deep-rooted history, subtly referencing past versions of the Justice League and numerous classic DC characters through Easter eggs. As we’ve always enjoyed speculating about who would triumph in a battle among powered individuals, this is an ideal moment to analyze the power levels of the confirmed DCU superheroes.

In our current assessment, we don’t have enough published works to definitively gauge the power levels of certain DC Universe characters yet. This includes heroes who had brief appearances, such as The Flash, Batman, and Wonder Woman in the ‘Creature Commandos’, that were merely Easter eggs or cameos. Our focus here is on publicly active superheroes rather than covert operatives, so we’re not including the beastly members of the Creature Commandos or Amanda Waller’s A.R.G.U.S. agents who work in the realm of black ops rather than crimefighting. Additionally, we are disregarding characters that have been announced but haven’t made their debut yet, such as Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart in the ‘Lanterns’ series.

In summary, the order of these characters reflects the power levels, abilities, and battle prowess they’ve shown in the current DC Universe storyline. While the landscape may change as the universe grows, here’s where our confirmed heroes stand within the DCU right now.

9) Vigilante

In the series “Peacemaker,” we meet Adrian Chase, portrayed by Freddie Stroma, who goes by the vigilante name Vigilante. Despite having a brief tenure in the DC Universe, his role has been significantly expanded in James Gunn’s recent canonization of “Peacemaker” Season 1. The series reveals that Vigilante has been a crimefighter for many years before transitioning into an A.R.G.U.S. black-op agent. Without any superpowers, he relies on a questionable moral compass and an unusual respect for Peacemaker (John Cena). Vigilante’s fighting abilities are impressive due to his exceptional shooting skills, competent hand-to-hand combat techniques, and high pain threshold.

It’s inevitable that Vigilante ends up at the bottom of the rankings because he is essentially a normal human. Despite his combat training, he struggles against more advanced beings like alien warriors and elemental entities in the DCU. His abilities and zealousness are all he has going for him, but they aren’t enough to handle the magnitude of threats faced by other heroes. In any situation that goes beyond common street crime, Vigilante would become a hindrance rather than a help, making him the least capable, yet one of the most iconic, characters in the new DCU.

8) Peacemaker

Christopher Smith, famously known as the Peacekeeper, is an expert assassin who zealously champions tranquility, no matter the price. His narrative, initially set in Peacemaker Season 1, carries on firmly within the new DC Universe due to Season 2 of his titled series and a humorous appearance in Superman. Peacekeeper is a skilled strategist and an elite fighter with peak human physique, much like Vigilante. However, what truly sets him apart are his array of sophisticated helmets crafted by his father, each imbuing unique and formidable abilities such as unleashing a destructive sonic wave, deploying a protective force field, or facilitating underwater navigation.

Peacemaker surpasses Vigilante in terms of skills and resources, primarily due to advanced training, strategic thinking, and innovative technology. Unlike conventional fighters, his helmets offer unique advantages in combat, enabling him to take on stronger opponents as demonstrated during his fight with the Butterflies and their leader. However, it’s essential to note that Peacemaker is fundamentally a man who heavily depends on technology for his power. In comparison to metahumans ranked higher, he does not possess world-shattering abilities.

7) Hawkgirl

In the movie “Superman,” Isabela Merced’s character, Hawkgirl, is a key figure in the corporate-backed superhero squad, the Justice Gang. She is portrayed as a bold and combative warrior on screen. Her main abilities demonstrated include the ability to fly using a pair of large wings and exceptional skills in hand-to-hand combat. Furthermore, she uses a massive mace as her weapon, which is powerful enough to deliver heavy physical impacts, fitting with her fierce fighting style.

As a movie lover, I can’t deny that Hawkgirl is an unquestionable force in combat, yet it seems her powers primarily revolve around direct physical engagement. Her wings and mace certainly make her a formidable foe, but compared to other heroes in the DC Universe, she doesn’t seem to wield the mystical or cosmic abilities that many possess. Her true strength lies in her martial arts skills and the raw power she can bring to a fight. This makes her an ideal choice for taking down monsters and armored soldiers, but it appears her current arsenal of powers may be more restrained compared to other DCU superheroes.

6) Mister Terrific

As an ardent admirer, I’d like to highlight Michael Holt, famously known as Mister Terrific, who stands tall among the Justice Gang in the world of Superman. This remarkable individual is recognized as one of the planet’s sharpest minds, a genius without any biological superpowers. His heroism stems solely from his intellect that soars beyond the norm and his proficiency with state-of-the-art technology.

His most iconic creations are the T-Spheres – a swarm of drones he can mentally command. In the movie, these spheres serve diverse roles, acting as concussive explosives when needed, serving as hacking tools to bypass obstacles, and projecting holograms, displaying the vast array of powers Mister Terrific can mimic through technology alone.

Beyond the T-Spheres, Mister Terrific’s intelligence is an extraordinary power in its own right. He outranks fighters who rely solely on physical strength, such as Hawkgirl, due to his strategic prowess and versatile technology. These abilities enable him to tackle problems that can’t be addressed through brute force. His swift decision-making is pivotal in managing threats within the film, where he effectively utilizes his T-Spheres to slay a kaiju and subsequently seal a rift in reality created by Lex Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult). Essentially, the T-Spheres provide him with solutions for various situations, making him a formidable one-man force capable of outsmarting and outmaneuvering adversaries who would normally be far beyond his league.

5) Krypto

Krypto, the faithful canine sidekick of Superman (portrayed by David Corenswet), hails from the planet Krypton and possesses supernatural abilities due to his exposure to Earth’s yellow sun. This bestowed upon him the full range of Kryptonian powers such as flight, extraordinary strength, and the ability to shoot heat beams. In the series Superman, Krypto is depicted as a mischievous yet immensely powerful pet. His powers play a pivotal role in vanquishing Lex Luthor’s Superman doppelganger, Ultraman, by obliterating the drones that Luthor manipulates to command the clone.

As a passionate moviegoer, I’d say Krypto earns such a high rank because he embodies Superman in the form of a canine. Just like his human counterpart, he holds divine powers, making him one of the most powerful beings on Earth. He can move structures with ease and fly quicker than any bullet. The only thing that stops him from being even more exceptional is his animal intellect. His actions are driven by instinct and loyalty instead of strategy or rational thinking. This makes him a wonderful companion who just happens to have the power to split continents.

4) Metamorpho

In the comic book series “Superman,” Rex Mason, portrayed by Anthony Carrigan, is first presented as a sorrowful character and goes by the name Metamorpho. This superhero possesses an extraordinary ability to manipulate his molecular structure, enabling him to reshape himself, elongate his limbs, and synthesize intricate chemical substances from within his own body. Initially forced into servitude by Lex Luthor after he kidnaps Mason’s son, Metamorpho uses his powers to turn into Kryptonite as a means to harm Superman. Later, following a shift in allegiance, he creates a miniature sun-like object to aid the ailing Superman in regaining his strength. These actions clearly showcase the incredible flexibility of Metamorpho’s powers.

Metamorpho’s capacity to change his physical form at will sets him apart as a powerful hero in the DCU. His elemental transformation allows for incredible adaptability against any environment or adversary. By converting his hands into solid weapons, his body into gas to dodge attacks, or his skin into steel for protection, he demonstrates an unpredictable versatility that leaves opponents guessing. Furthermore, he can spontaneously generate harmful substances like acid, showcasing a level of molecular control that transcends conventional technology and brute strength. In essence, Metamorpho’s unique abilities make him a formidable force to be reckoned with.

3) Green Lantern (Guy Gardner)

Characterized by unyielding determination, Guy Gardner (portrayed by Nathan Fillion) is the renowned Green Lantern hailing from Space Sector 2814. In the cinematic adaptation of Superman, he stands out as a seasoned member, not just of the Green Lantern Corps, but also the Justice League. His weapon of choice is the Green Lantern Power Ring – an instrument imbued with one of the universe’s greatest powers. This artifact empowers him to materialize tangible structures from his thoughts, the strength of which is only constrained by his personal resolve. In the movie, he employs the ring in a bold and comical fashion, crafting items such as oven mitts to grapple with a kaiju creature and a colossal middle finger to deter enemy tanks.

Among many powerful characters, Guy Gardner stands out as one with extraordinary abilities due to his Power Ring. This ring empowers him to traverse speeds faster than light, adapt to any terrain, and create constructs ranging from basic energy blasts to intricate machinery. Moreover, his power source is colossal in magnitude, enabling him to confront threats that could potentially destroy entire planets. However, his brash and contentious character can sometimes be a disadvantage. Yet, the unquestionable reality-altering prowess of his ring is indisputable. In terms of raw potential, he resides on a plane that few Earth-born heroes even come close to reaching.

2) Supergirl

Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin and the only other known survivor from Krypton who arrived on Earth, possesses extraordinary abilities due to exposure to our sun. Much like all her kin, she can fly, demonstrate superhuman strength, speed, and durability, and even project heat vision. In a recent scene of Superman, we see her making an entrance, revealing a more emotionally turbulent side. It’s later revealed that Clark Kent informs the audience that she seeks out planets with red suns, where she can drink excessively.

In brief appearances, Supergirl mirrors Superman’s Kryptonian physique, making her one of the two strongest characters debuted in the DC Universe. Her capabilities are vast, and when it comes to raw strength, she matches him. However, she is positioned slightly below him due to her inexperience, emotional volatility, and self-destructive tendencies. Unlike Superman, who has years of experience honing his skills and establishing his ethical code, Kara is portrayed as a relatively green and impulsive superhero. Essentially, she possesses the same destructive power, but her self-control and discipline have yet to reach Superman’s level.

1) Superman

As the leading figure in the new DC Universe, I, Clark Kent – the Man of Steel – stand tall as a beacon of strength and inspiration. With years of heroic experience under my belt, I feel at home in the role of protector for mankind. My actions are guided by kindness and compassion, but beneath this gentle exterior lies an almost unlimited arsenal of powers. As a Kryptonian, I am imbued with extraordinary abilities such as superhuman strength, speed, flight, invincibility, X-ray vision, and the ability to project intense heat beams from my eyes. In my initial film appearance, I demonstrated feats that left audiences in awe – from physically subduing a colossal kaiju monster to ultimately vanquishing my own formidable clone, Ultraman.

As a dedicated movie buff, I can confidently say that no superhero in the DC Universe rivals Superman when it comes to power. In the film “Superman,” he consistently displays an unparalleled level of precision and self-restraint, even during the most turbulent conflicts. His top priority is always ensuring the safety of the public, making him a true beacon of hope in difficult situations. He embodies the perfect blend of immense strength, remarkable control, and a noble character, setting the gold standard for what it truly means to be a hero, inspiring us all with his selfless actions.
