Throughout the Scream movies, thirteen different people have donned the Ghostface mask and committed murder. While Greg Bruckner almost became a fourteenth, he didn’t manage to kill anyone. The series, which started in 1996, is unique because it’s a horror series that acknowledges its own tropes – the characters are often aware of horror movie clichés. Unlike unstoppable monsters like Jason Voorhees, the Ghostface killers are often vulnerable when their victims fight back. Though they’ve committed many murders over the course of the films, the number is typically lower than it could be, as most of the movies feature multiple killers.
This list of Ghostface’s victims only counts murders shown directly in the Scream films. Kills that happen outside the main plot aren’t included because it’s impossible to know which Ghostface killer was responsible.
13) Jason Carvey – 1

The movie Scream VI begins by introducing two film students, Greg Bruckner and Jason Carvey, who are obsessed with the Ghostface killer and want to imitate him. However, the opening scene quickly takes a dark turn. Jason murders a professor, but before he can strike again, he discovers his friend Greg brutally murdered – dismembered and placed inside a refrigerator. Shortly after, Jason himself is killed by Wayne Bailey, the new Ghostface in Scream VI.
12) Richie Kirsch – 1

Richie Kirsch played one of the Ghostface killers in Scream V, but he wasn’t the main one. As the secondary killer, he only committed one murder in the film: stabbing Wes Hicks in the neck. This act enraged Samantha Carpenter, who then attacked and killed Richie with over 20 stabs, a slashed throat, and three gunshot wounds. Today, Richie is also known as the son of Wayne Bailey, the killer seeking revenge in Scream VI.
11) Quinn Bailey – 1

Quinn Bailey-Kirsch was one of the killers who played Ghostface in Scream VI. She was Richie Kirsch’s sister – Richie was a main killer in the previous Scream movie. Similar to her brother, Quinn only directly killed one person: Brooks. Her father, Wayne, was the mastermind behind the killings. Samantha ultimately killed Quinn, mirroring how she had killed Richie in the earlier film.
10) Ethan Landry – 2

Ethan Landry-Kirsch played Richie’s brother in Scream V and became one of the Ghostface killers in Scream VI, along with his sister Quinn and father Wayne Bailey. He was the last Ghostface to be defeated in the movie, and he directly killed two characters on screen: Dr. Stone, whom he stabbed, and Anika Kayoko. While Ethan may have been responsible for four other deaths that happened off-screen, this only accounts for his confirmed on-screen kills. Ultimately, he was killed when Kirby Reed hit him with a television.
9) Mrs. Loomis – 2

In Scream 2, Mrs. Loomis was the main villain, though she only directly killed two people. She manipulated Mickey Altieri into doing most of the killing for her. Driven by revenge, Mrs. Loomis—the mother of Billy Loomis, a killer from the first Scream movie—sought retribution for his death. However, her anger ran deeper than just her son; Sidney Prescott’s mother had an affair with Mrs. Loomis’s husband, leading to the end of her marriage. Tragically, one of Mrs. Loomis’s victims was a fan favorite: she killed Cici Cooper and then unexpectedly murdered Randy Meeks.
8) Stu Macher – 4

As a huge fan of the original Scream, I always found the killer reveal so effective. It wasn’t just one person under the mask, but two: Stu Macher and Billy Loomis. Between them, they racked up seven kills throughout the movie. What really set them apart from killers in later Scream films was that they were actually friends with a lot of the people they targeted – they blended right in with the group we all assumed would be in danger! Stu kicked things off by killing Steven right away, and he teamed up with Billy to kill Casey Becker. Later, he brutally slashed Kenny’s throat. Even before all that, they confessed to a pretty shocking act: the murder of Sidney’s mom, Maureen Prescott, and they even pinned the blame on Cotton Weary! It was a seriously twisted setup.
7) Billy Loomis – 4

In the first Scream movie, Billy Loomis was responsible for four deaths. Before the movie even began, Billy and Stu murdered Sidney’s mother, Maureen Prescott, and falsely accused Cotton Weary. They then killed Casey Becker together. Billy later murdered his principal, Mr. Himbry, and Stu’s girlfriend, Tatum, by crushing her with a garage door. Though Billy stabbed Stu multiple times to hide their crimes, it was Sidney who ultimately killed Stu, not Billy.
6) Jill Roberts – 5

In Scream 4, Jill Roberts was revealed to be the Ghostface killer. Motivated by jealousy of her cousin, Sidney Prescott – whose mother was Jill’s aunt – Jill orchestrated a series of murders with her friend, Charlie Walker. While they worked together, Jill was responsible for more of the killings, totaling five victims. Ultimately, she betrayed Charlie, intending to be the sole survivor, but Sidney Prescott ultimately killed her.
5) Amber Freeman – 5

In the fifth Scream movie, Amber Freeman was revealed to be the main Ghostface killer. She connected with Richie online, and together they devised a plan to recreate the original Stab film by committing real-life murders, specifically targeting sisters Tara and Samantha Carpenter. While Richie participated in the killings, Amber was responsible for the most deaths. She’s particularly remembered for killing Deputy Dewey Riley, a fan-favorite character. Gale Weathers, Dewey’s ex-wife, later got her revenge by setting Amber on fire, and Tara ultimately killed her with a gunshot to the head.
4) Charlie Walker – 6

Charlie Walker was the main force behind the Ghostface killings in Scream 4. He teamed up with Jill Roberts, and together they were responsible for five deaths each. While Charlie initially had more kills than Jill, she ultimately stabbed and killed him, tying their kill counts. Charlie’s victims included Marnie Cooper, Rebecca Walters, Olivia Morris, Deputy Hoss (along with Jill), and Robbie Mercer; he committed the very first murder in the film.
3) Wayne Bailey – 6

The main villain in Scream VI was responsible for more deaths than all but two previous Ghostface killers. Wayne Bailey, a police detective, sought revenge for his son’s death in Scream V. His son, Richie, had been a killer in the previous film and was killed by Samantha Carpenter. Wayne, along with his children Quinn and Ethan, committed a total of nine murders, with Wayne personally killing six people. He even killed a former Ghostface killer, Greg Bruckner, and only stopped when Samantha stabbed him repeatedly—mirroring how she had killed his son in the previous movie.
2) Mickey Altieri – 7

In Scream 2, the main villain was Mrs. Loomis, but she used Mickey Altieri as her primary killer. Mickey actually murdered more victims throughout the Scream series than anyone except one other character. Although Mrs. Loomis committed the first three of the movie’s four initial killings, Mickey was responsible for a total of seven deaths, starting with Maureen Evans and including two police officers. Mrs. Loomis later betrayed Mickey, shooting him in the chest and shoulder. After Cotton Weary shot Mrs. Loomis, Mickey surprisingly reappeared, still alive, before Sidney and Gale ultimately killed him with a barrage of twelve shots.
1) Roman Bridger – 9

Roman Bridger, the Ghostface killer responsible for the most deaths, appeared in what is widely considered the weakest Scream film. He achieved this high kill count because he acted alone in Scream 3, without any partners. Roman had a personal connection to the events: he was the secret son of Maureen Prescott and Sidney’s half-brother. Driven by resentment that Sidney gained notoriety from the tragedies surrounding her, Roman orchestrated the entire series of murders. He initially manipulated Billy Loomis, effectively starting the violence in the first Scream and setting the stage for the events in Scream 2. Roman directly killed nine people, including Cotton Weary, who was wrongly accused of Maureen’s murder, and the man who caused his mother’s ruin. Ultimately, Sidney confronted and killed Roman, with assistance from Dewey.
