The latest installment, Scream 7, is proving successful, which means fans can expect at least one more movie in the series. With a new film comes the promise of more thrills and, of course, more scary moments. Scream 7 delivers ten new instances of suspense, caused by either the Ghostface killer or Sidney Prescott. While it may not be as clever or well-written as some of the earlier Scream films, it certainly doesn’t hold back on the violence.
This installment features some truly creative and shocking kills, standing out even within the entire series. However, while there are ten deaths total, their impact varies quite a bit – some are far more effective than others.
Spoilers for Scream 7 follow.
10) Marco Davis

As a big fan of the Scream movies, I’ve noticed a pattern with how they take down Ghostface – you pretty much have to shoot them in the head. That’s exactly what happens to Marco Davis in Scream 7, unfortunately. It’s become a bit of a franchise trademark, honestly.
This kill isn’t very impactful mainly because the movie doesn’t develop Marco’s character. He appears briefly in the middle of the film and then again during the reveal, ultimately playing second fiddle to Jessica Bowden. True to his underdeveloped role, he’s quickly killed off – he runs at Sidney and is immediately shot. It’s a fairly unremarkable death, similar to something you might see in an action movie like John Wick.
9) Karl Allan Gibbs

Ever seen a movie where a character walks into traffic and you just know something bad is about to happen? That’s exactly what happens to the third person to wear the Ghostface mask: Karl Allan Gibbs.
Following his attack on Sidney, Tatum, and Mark Evans inside the house, the attacker is quickly overwhelmed and forced outside. He ends up in the street, where a van hits him, sending him flying. It’s a fairly typical scene, nothing particularly original.
8) Aaron

You might have seen similar moments in other shows, like when Aaron is unexpectedly killed off-screen. It was a quick, shocking exit – we barely had time to get to know him.
Aaron’s role is to increase the body count and set up more effective kills. He operates the machinery that traps Hannah Thurman, but once he’s eliminated, Ghostface takes control. While there are some graphic throat slashes – reminiscent of the classic scene in the original Friday the 13th – most of the violence is fairly typical for slasher films.
7) Ben Brown

Each Scream movie includes at least one character presented as a possible Ghostface killer, meant to mislead the audience. For example, Detective Mark Kincaid in Scream 3 and Cotton Weary in Scream 2 were both red herrings. Scream 7 takes this approach with two characters designed to look like the killer.
I always felt bad for Ben, Tatum’s boyfriend. He wasn’t some villain like Billy Loomis at all – a genuinely nice guy who just wanted to protect her. But honestly, for him to be the last person killed by someone who isn’t Ghostface, and for it to be… just a few stab wounds to the chest? It felt a little underwhelming for a character who played such a big role in everything.
6) Jessica Bowden

Let’s talk about Jessica Bowden, the main Ghostface villain. She was Sidney’s neighbor and pretended to be a friend, but she was actually a deeply obsessed fan. She misinterpreted Sidney’s book, was angry Sidney didn’t move to New York, and wanted her own daughter to become the next ‘final girl’ – the last survivor in a horror movie.
Despite a weak reason for her actions, Jessica is the most compelling of the three killers, and her death scene is the most effective, even if it’s not particularly spectacular. After a brief fight with Sidney where she’s injured, Tatum joins in, and the two of them repeatedly shoot Jessica in the face. It’s a solid scene, and stands out because of the sheer amount of damage inflicted – ultimately, almost all that’s left of her is a small piece of forehead and half a jaw.
5) Chloe Parker

With both Mckenna Grace and Celeste O’Connor joining the cast of Scream 7, it’s a bit of a Ghostbusters reunion. However, their characters will face much more perilous situations in this new installment.
Chloe Parker, from O’Connor’s, believes she’s made it through Ghostface’s attack at the bar. She ducks behind the bar, assuming Ghostface is gone, but when she stands up, Ghostface immediately attacks. A struggle ensues, and she’s thrown backwards, hitting some bottles. One of the broken bottles cuts her throat.
4) Scott

Scott isn’t the first character to be stabbed in the head by Ghostface. While we didn’t see it happen, Cotton Weary was stabbed in the head in Scream 3. Similarly, Officer Anthony Perkins suffered the same fate in Scream 4, managing to walk a few steps afterward.
Similar to Perkins’ approach, this scene deliberately focuses on the impact of the injury. The camera zooms in on Scott’s face, showing his right eye roll upwards – a subtle but effective detail.
3) Madison

While we still think Scream VI was the most straight-faced and serious installment in the Scream series (though that’s not necessarily a bad thing), Scream 7 quickly shows it’s keeping the horror elements that defined the recent films. This is immediately clear with the death of Madison in the opening scene, which culminates in Ghostface setting fire to the Airbnb modeled after the original Macher house.
Ghostface kills Scott and then chases Madison before falling from the second floor, landing with a loud impact. He quickly recovers and Madison tragically falls onto his knife. This shocking sequence is already impressive, but it escalates when Ghostface drenches the house – and Madison – in gasoline and sets it ablaze. It’s a truly horrifying scene.
2) Lucas Bowden

Lucas Bowden almost took first place. Similar to the kill that did win, his defeat is memorable for a couple of key reasons.
Lucas always seemed like the most likely suspect – even more so than Ben. He came across as unsettling, pried into Sidney’s personal life, and just generally stuck around too much. However, the real killer turns out to be his mother, and she kills him shockingly easily. This is one of the best parts of Scream 7‘s story. The way he dies is also incredibly brutal: Jessica picks him up, drags him through the blood where Choe was killed, and then impales his head on a spiked beer tap, causing bloody foam to pour out of his mouth. It’s a gruesome scene that would likely impress the killer from My Bloody Valentine.
1) Hannah Thurman

Gore and violence have always been a key part of the Scream movies, ever since the very first victims, Steven Orth and Casey Becker, were brutally attacked. The latest installment, Scream 7, continues this tradition with the character Hannah Thurman (played by Mckenna Grace) suffering a similar fate.
Hannah tops our list for a couple of reasons. First, Grace is such a charming actress and her character is so well-liked that it’s genuinely upsetting to see her go, particularly so soon into the film. Second, her death is unnecessarily prolonged and brutal. Ghostface doesn’t immediately kill her, instead tormenting her while she’s suspended by stage equipment. She’s left helpless, swinging back and forth, as he slowly inflicts multiple cuts, eventually leading to a gruesome and graphic injury where her internal organs spill onto the stage.
Wow, I just finished watching Scream 7 and I’m honestly blown away by how creative and intense some of those kills were! Seriously, they might be the best in the whole series. I’m dying to hear what everyone else thought, so I’m heading over to the ComicBook Forum to chat about it – come join me and let’s discuss!
