Every Live-Action Version of Batman, Ranked By Strength

DC Comics is known for its powerful villains, and Darkseid is arguably the most formidable. As the ruler of Apokolips, he relentlessly searches the universe for the Anti-Life Equation, a discovery that would make conquering worlds simple. Even the combined power of the Justice League and other heroes can barely slow him down, and he’s not just strong – he’s incredibly intelligent too. Luckily, Batman exists, and with enough preparation, he’s capable of countering even the greatest threats.

Batman doesn’t rely on superpowers – he typically overcomes his Gotham City foes through skill and strategy. But even when he’s not fighting crime, staying in peak physical condition is important. Here’s a ranking of every actor who’s played Batman in live-action films, based on their character’s demonstrated strength.

9) Gotham

The show *Gotham* focuses on a young Bruce Wayne, but Batman himself only appears in one episode. While the show sets up Batman’s future, young Bruce doesn’t play a significant role, and the story mainly follows Jim Gordon. Ultimately, Batman doesn’t have enough screen time to be a central figure.

8) Batman

Considering it was Batman’s first big TV series, the show is surprisingly good. Adam West does a fantastic job portraying a playful and cheerful Batman, though his fight scenes aren’t very impactful. He’s more likely to invent a gadget to subdue criminals than actually throw a punch.

7) Titans

The show *Titans* doesn’t feature Batman heavily, as the story centers on Nightwing and the team he leads. When Batman does appear, he’s portrayed as nearing the end of his crime-fighting days, and his main contributions usually involve briefly fighting villains and a memorable showdown with The Joker.

6) Batman Forever

In Batman Forever, Val Kilmer replaces Michael Keaton as the Caped Crusader. Though the film includes famous DC villains, Two-Face and The Riddler, they don’t present much of a physical challenge to Batman. Instead of a lot of fighting, Batman mainly relies on his intelligence to overcome the obstacles they create. The movie features very little actual hand-to-hand combat.

5) The Dark Knight Trilogy

I’ve always admired how Christopher Nolan’s *The Dark Knight* trilogy feels so grounded. It doesn’t shy away from showing the real consequences of the battles – characters genuinely get hurt. It’s not just about superheroics; even Bruce Wayne himself is shown recovering from a really bad back injury in *The Dark Knight Rises*. And while Batman ultimately triumphs over Bane, he definitely takes a beating throughout all three films, which makes it all the more believable and impactful to me.

4) The Batman

Matt Reeves’ Batman films, similar to Christopher Nolan’s *The Dark Knight* trilogy, focus on realism. However, Robert Pattinson’s Batman is noticeably more violent than Christian Bale’s version. He seems driven to truly punish the criminals he fights, making his attacks feel particularly forceful.

3) Batman & Robin

Just because George Clooney starred in what many consider the worst Batman film doesn’t necessarily mean his performance was the weakest. *Batman & Robin* featured a strong group of villains – Poison Ivy, Bane, and Mr. Freeze – and Batman managed to defeat them all without sustaining any major injuries, which is an accomplishment worth noting.

2) Tim Burton’s Batman

The action sequences in Michael Keaton’s first two Batman films weren’t particularly memorable, and his villains – the Joker, Catwoman, and the Penguin – weren’t very difficult opponents. However, when Keaton returned as Batman in *The Flash*, the stakes were much higher, as he battled a massive Kryptonian army. Although Batman doesn’t win a direct fight against Zod, he definitely holds his own and proves his worth.

1) DCEU Batman

The competition for the strongest hero in the DC Extended Universe isn’t very close. Batman’s debut saw him bravely fight Superman, and he later battled the alien Steppenwolf in *Justice League*. Because Ben Affleck’s Batman has survived so many world-threatening fights, he’s proven to be more resilient than his fellow heroes.
