The anime adaptation of My Hero Academia has concluded its final story arc after two years. While not perfect, the arc was as enjoyable to watch as the original manga, and perhaps even more so. The series is sure to be remembered as a classic.
Like many anime series finales, the last arc of My Hero Academia featured a lot of intense fighting and several character deaths. While many of those who died weren’t major characters, the deaths that were emphasized felt impactful and underscored the story’s conclusive nature, even when they happened unexpectedly.
7) Gigantomachia

Gigantomachia was a long-time, incredibly strong ally of All For One. Because of his huge size and the many powerful Quirks he possesses, he’s essentially a walking weapon of mass destruction. A key part of the final battle involved preventing All For One’s followers from freeing him from prison.
As expected, Gigantomachia was released during the final fight, but unexpectedly, he sided against All For One after being left behind in the previous battle against the Paranormal Liberation Front. This surprising turn helped the heroes reduce the time All For One had with his Rewind quirk, though Gigantomachia was ultimately defeated quickly.
6) Dabi

Dabi, whose real name is Toya Todoroki, was one of Shigaraki’s first allies and the eldest son of Endeavor. Feeling betrayed by Endeavor’s refusal to let him become a hero and angered by what he saw as abuse towards his siblings, Dabi dedicated himself to destroying Endeavor’s life and family, even if it meant sacrificing himself.
I watched as Dabi unleashed everything he had in the final fight, essentially turning himself into a human bomb. The Todoroki family barely managed to contain the blast. While he technically lingered for a bit after the battle, he was so close to death that, for all intents and purposes, I consider that final arc to be when he passed away.
5) Himiko Toga

Himiko Toga was a key figure in the League of Villains, working alongside Shigaraki. Her unique ability, or “Quirk,” caused a strong, and somewhat disturbing, fascination with blood. After years of hiding this part of herself because of her parents, she eventually broke down and turned to villainy, hoping to build a world where she could be accepted for who she is.
In the climactic fight, Ochaco connected with Himiko, showing her genuine care and stopping her destructive outburst that almost defeated the heroes. Sadly, Ochaco was critically wounded during the battle. Himiko, in turn, saved Ochaco’s life with a blood transfusion, a sacrifice that continues to deeply affect Ochaco even years later.
4) Stain

Stain was a villain known for killing heroes he felt had lost their way. Though defeated early on by Izuku, Shoto, and Iida, his extremist views inspired others – like Dabi and Himiko – to become villains, making him a key figure in the series’ backstory.
During All For One’s escape from Tartarus, many villains were released, including Stain. Surprisingly, Stain decided to help All Might and fight against the Paranormal Liberation Front. This led to a short-lived alliance between Stain and All Might against All For One, but All For One swiftly killed Stain after a brief lapse in concentration.
3) Kurogiri

I learned that Kurogiri, one of the older members of the League of Villains, was essentially looking after Shigaraki on behalf of All For One. It was a huge shock when, after his arrest following the Shie Hassaikai incident, it came out that he wasn’t a person at all, but a Nomu. Even more incredibly, he was created from the memories and body of Oboro Shirakumo – Aizawa’s close friend who had passed away. This revelation completely shattered Kurogiri, causing a real crisis of identity and loyalty.
During the final battle, Aizawa desperately tried to connect with the part of Kurogiri that still held the memories of Shirakumo, hoping for assistance. However, Kurogiri’s loyalty to Shigaraki was too strong to overcome. As a result, Kurogiri attempted to prevent Izuku from defeating Shigaraki after All For One was defeated, but Bakugo intervened and killed Kurogiri, allowing Izuku to finish the fight.
2) All For One

All For One is a main villain in My Hero Academia. He’s been trying to control the world since the beginning of superpowers, and his most recent plan involved possessing Shigaraki’s body, carefully preparing it to house his mind.
All For One met his end in two stages. First, his original body was completely destroyed by a replica of Eri’s Rewind ability. Later, after possessing Shigaraki’s body, Izuku transferred One For All to him, which ultimately obliterated both his body and spirit, ensuring his final defeat.
1) Tomura Shigaraki

Tomura Shigaraki, originally named Tenko Shimura, was the primary villain and trained under All For One. Abandoned and mistreated by society, he became dedicated to causing chaos and drew in others who wanted change. However, he didn’t realize how much All For One was secretly controlling everything.
Once Izuku discovered how All For One had been controlling Shigaraki, All For One took over Shigaraki’s body. Izuku was forced to stop All For One by defeating Shigaraki, but Shigaraki’s internal battle was crucial to rebuilding society. Ultimately, no death in the final story of My Hero Academia had a greater effect than Shigaraki’s.
