Every Major Hulk Power The MCU Forgot To Show (& 1 They Never Could Have)

Hulk is incredibly powerful in Marvel comics, but the movies haven’t explored the full range of his abilities. While the MCU version of Hulk is known for his super strength, toughness, and ability to jump great distances, that’s mostly where his on-screen powers end. The comics showcase many more abilities that haven’t appeared in the films, and some of those powers would be impossible to include given the MCU’s established storyline.

Let’s explore some of the Hulk’s abilities from the Marvel comics that haven’t been shown in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

5) Hulk Can See Ghosts

Hulk has the unique ability to see ghosts and people existing on the Astral Plane – a power demonstrated as early as the 1970s when he could see Doctor Strange while Strange was projecting himself there. They can even talk to each other across dimensions. This stems from the way Hulk’s gamma radiation altered his physiology, giving him a perception beyond normal limits. However, this power is also a curse, as it means Hulk is haunted by the ghost of his abusive father, Brian Banner, even years after his death. This constant presence helps explain Hulk’s enduring anger and inability to find peace.

4) Resistance To Telepaths

Beyond characters like Mantis and Wanda Maximoff, telepathy isn’t common in the MCU. Interestingly, the Hulk has a natural defense against it. While it’s been inconsistent in the comics, the Hulk is generally immune to having his mind read by telepaths. However, his mind can still be influenced, as seen in the ‘Onslaught’ storyline where he asked Jean Grey to suppress Bruce Banner, allowing him to fully unleash his rage. During ‘World War Hulk,’ Professor X confessed he’d never encountered a mental force as powerful as the Hulk’s, and couldn’t break through it.

3) Immortality

While Hulk is technically immortal in the comics, this hasn’t been explored in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The comic book stories often deal with this immortality directly, even venturing into the afterlife. Specifically, the ‘Immortal Hulk’ storyline featured a realm called the Below-Place, accessed through the Green Door, which explains how he continually returns to life. The comics have even depicted a future where Hulk survives everyone else, ultimately becoming the last living being on Earth.

2) Unlimited Strength

In the Marvel comics, the Hulk’s strength is essentially limitless, but the movies haven’t quite shown that level of power. While the MCU Hulk is very strong, we haven’t seen what his true limits are. We’ve seen him fight characters like Iron Man in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and even though he’s powerful, those fights have been surprisingly competitive. He was even defeated by Thanos, which wouldn’t happen in the comics because the Hulk’s anger makes him stronger and eventually unstoppable. The movies portray the Hulk as someone who can be beaten, which differs from his source material where he’s virtually invincible when enraged.

1) Hulk Can Punch Holes In The Fabric Of Reality

The Hulk possesses an incredibly strange and powerful ability: he’s strong enough to literally punch a hole in reality. This was first demonstrated in The Incredible Hulk #135. In that story, Kang the Conqueror sought a way to defeat the Avengers and needed someone with immense strength to travel back in time and eliminate one of Hulk’s ancestors. He selected Hulk for the task. However, while traveling to World War II, Hulk was caught in a time-storm. Fueled by rage, he punched a tear through the very fabric of space and time. While seemingly absurd, this event highlighted the astonishing extent of his power.
