Every Major Illuminati Member Who Hasn’t Appeared In The MCU

The Illuminati, similar to the Avengers, is a team of powerful individuals who combine their skills to protect humanity. However, instead of directly fighting villains, they operate in secret, making important decisions behind the scenes. We recently saw the Illuminati in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, though this version existed on an alternate Earth (Earth-838) compared to the main MCU Earth (Earth-616). Both the movie and the comic books show the Illuminati forming to defend the universe from threats too big for any single hero. The comics specifically cite the Kree-Skrull war as the catalyst, while the movie doesn’t mention a specific event. Interestingly, Doctor Strange is depicted as the founder in the MCU, whereas Tony Stark was the one who brought the team together in the comics.

The original Illuminati group included heroes like Stark, Mister Fantastic, Namor, Black Bolt, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Professor X – all characters we’ve already seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But what about members who joined the group later? We’re taking a look to see if any of those heroes haven’t appeared in a movie or show yet. We’re excluding one particular lineup from 2015-2016, as it consisted of villains like Enchantress and Hood, who haven’t been introduced to the MCU (though Titania did appear in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law).

4) Blue Marvel

Blue Marvel became a member of the Illuminati during the Thanos limited series. The Illuminati’s main purpose is to deal with threats like Thanos. While Blue Marvel usually disliked the Illuminati’s secretive methods, he recognized that Thanos was such a significant danger that he agreed to work with them despite his reservations.

Adam Brashear, known as Blue Marvel, was a Cornell University football player who later served in the Korean War. After the war, he headed a research project focused on antimatter, and unexpectedly gained superpowers when a reactor exploded.

3) Captain Britain

I was really excited when Captain Britain, Brian Braddock, joined the Illuminati! They were expanding the team to protect the universe – especially Earth-2319 – from these terrifying Incursions. It was such a shock, though, that he tragically died in his very first appearance with them, in New Avengers #14. It was a heartbreaking moment, honestly.

As a long-time comic and movie fan, I’ve always found the history of Captain Britain fascinating. While a few different people have taken on the mantle, Brian Braddock was the original. Interestingly, it’s currently his twin sister, Betsy Braddock, who holds the title. Many of us also know Betsy as Psylocke – Olivia Munn actually played her in X-Men: Apocalypse.

2) White Queen

Emma Frost, also known as the White Queen, has been in a Marvel movie before – X-Men: First Class. However, that wasn’t part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). With the MCU planning to introduce the X-Men again, many fans expect to see her appear.

Similar to Blue Marvel, Frost became a member of the Illuminati during the Thanos series in 2023, effectively taking Charles Xavier’s place. She shares his telepathic abilities and diplomatic skills, although the latter weren’t prominently displayed in First Class. She also served with Captain Britain on the Illuminati, appearing in New Avengers (Vol. 3) #14, but unfortunately, like Captain Britain, she didn’t survive the experience.

1) Brawn

Amadeus Cho, also known as Brawn, is a brilliant Korean American who transforms into the Totally Awesome Hulk. Similar to She-Hulk, he got his powers from the Hulk, but instead of receiving Hulk’s blood, he absorbed gamma radiation. When he transforms, he becomes incredibly strong and muscular, though he largely maintains his original appearance.

Cho became a member of the Illuminati during the Incursions storyline, specifically in New Avengers #1 (Volume 3). However, he wasn’t thrilled about joining at first, as he was upset that Mr. Fantastic and Iron Man had sent his friend, the Hulk, into space.
