In 2026, fans can look forward to new installments in popular series. This includes the films Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday, which are part of Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Exciting continuations are also planned for television, with new seasons of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man and Heartstopper Forever.
2026 promises a lot of exciting sequels, including continuations of surprise hits like Fall 2 and Insidious: The Bleeding World. Whether they’re blockbusters or cult favorites, there are dozens of sequel movies scheduled for release this year.
Millie Bobby Brown Returns to Netflix in Enola Holmes 3
- Release Date: Early 2026
Millie Bobby Brown, known for her role in Stranger Things, appears in the third Enola Holmes film as Sherlock Holmes’ intelligent younger sister. Henry Cavill will return as Sherlock Holmes, and Himesh Patel will reprise his role as Dr. Watson.
This movie series is a surprisingly good choice for families, following a determined young detective who’s eager to make her mark. The latest story takes her to Malta, where she uncovers a secret and risky world of powerful, manipulative people.
Fall 2 Is an Unexpected Continuation
- Release Date: Early 2026
The new story shares a lot of similarities with the 2022 film Fall. Both center around a woman undertaking a risky climb as a tribute to someone she’s lost – in this case, Jax climbing in memory of her sister, Shiloh, much like the protagonist in Fall who climbed for her deceased fiancé.
The movie Fall wasn’t initially a big success in theaters, but it quickly gained popularity when it started streaming. Before Fall 2 comes out next year, the project is already well underway.
Greenland 2 Is the Next Era of an Apocalypse
- Release Date: January 9
I’m so excited for the new movie! It’s bringing back Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin as John and Allison Garrity, the couple who amazingly survived the comet impact. The story picks up five years later, and it follows their family as they venture out of the relative safety of Greenland, hoping to find a new place to call home. It sounds like a really thrilling continuation of the first film!
Some viewers worry this new show will focus more on conflict between people, like a previous series, rather than the disaster itself. However, the upcoming thriller still looks promising, with a bleak setting and a compelling story.
A Post-Apocalyptic Hit Continues in 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple
- Release Date: January 16
I just got a sneak peek at 28 Years Later, and it’s a fantastic continuation of the world Danny Boyle created with 28 Days Later. This next-generation film jumps forward in time and follows Spike, the now teenage son of one of the original survivors, as he navigates a still-devastated Britain and tries to survive the terrifying Rage virus. It really feels like a worthy successor and expands on everything that made the first movie so gripping.
The original film’s lead actor will be making a brief appearance in the new movie. This short role is expected to set up their involvement in the third and final film of the series.
The Strangers: Chapter 3 Will Make or Break This Franchise
- Release Date: February 6
After two popular horror films, The Strangers returned with The Strangers: Chapter 1, which felt very much like the first movie but updated for today’s audiences and with a new ending. The Strangers: Chapter 3 will conclude this current story arc.
After releasing Chapter 1 in Spring 2024 and Chapter 2 in Fall 2025, the slasher trilogy came together quickly. While these newer films haven’t been as popular as the originals, they’ve still attracted a dedicated and engaged fanbase.
Neve Campbell and Other Franchise Favorites Return in Scream 7
- Release Date: February 27
The next installment in the popular slasher series is coming soon, but it will be different following the exits of stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. Good news for fans, though: Neve Campbell will return as the beloved final girl, Sidney, after sitting out Scream VI.
Even with some delays and changes, the new Scream 7 movie should still please longtime fans. Although the film has faced some issues before its release, it’s expected to be a major horror hit in 2026.
A Sensation Returns in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man
- Release Date: March 6
This film features a war hero who becomes the leader of a London street gang after World War I. In Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, Shelby goes back to Birmingham to reconnect with his family during the turmoil of World War II.
Viewers who enjoyed the Peaky Blinders series can continue the story in one of two ways: it will first be shown in some cinemas on March 6th, and then become available on Netflix on March 20th. This new release follows the incredibly popular six seasons of the original show.
One of the Best Horror Comedies Comes Back in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come
- Release Date: March 27
The upcoming horror film, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, features a thrilling cast, including the return of Samara Weaving. Joining her is Kathryn Newton, who has become well-known in the horror genre with roles in Freaky and Abigail.
The sequel, Ready or Not 2, continues the thrilling and dark story of a family’s dangerous traditions. Grace, played by Weaving, is back and fighting for her life against the wealthy upper class, and this time she also has to protect her sister.
The Next Nintendo Film Will Be The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
- Release Date: April 3
Even before its release, The Super Mario Bros. Movie generated a lot of excitement and is expected to be a hit at the box office, despite receiving mixed reactions from critics. The film boasts a fantastic voice cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, and Jack Black as Bowser.
The trailer also revealed that Rosalina, another princess from the Nintendo world, will be featured, thanks to a fantastic voice cast. The story will follow the heroes as they travel through space to battle Bowser Jr. (voiced by Benny Safdie).
The Devil Wears Prada 2 Brings Back a Dynamic Duo
- Release Date: May 1
While details are still scarce, the new movie will once again star Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway as their characters from the first film. It’s based on Lauren Weisberger’s book, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns.
Given how beloved the original movie has been since 2006, it’s surprising a sequel is only now being released. Luckily, the new film can count on both fans of the first movie and a fresh audience of romantic comedy lovers to come see it in theaters.
