Peacock is the perfect streaming service for fans of DreamWorks Animation. It has a large collection of the studio’s popular movies and shows, including the recent film The Bad Guys 2 and both seasons of Trolls: The Beat Goes On. Now, Peacock has even more to offer with the addition of every movie from one of DreamWorks’ most well-loved franchises.
Fans can now watch all the Madagascar movies on Peacock! Starting March 1st, the streaming service added the original Madagascar, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, and Penguins of Madagascar. The first three films follow four zoo animals from New York who unexpectedly end up on the island of Madagascar. The sequels show them trying to get back home – first by joining an African wildlife reserve, and then a traveling circus. Penguins of Madagascar takes a different approach, focusing on the penguins themselves as they work with a secret animal task force to stop a villainous plot by Dr. Octavius Brine.
Why Is the Madagascar Franchise So Good?
DreamWorks Animation consistently creates excellent sequels and franchises, and the Madagascar series is right up there with Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, and Kung Fu Panda. Like those other films, Madagascar boasts DreamWorks’ signature high-quality animation, but it also delivers fast-paced, funny adventures that appeal to viewers of all ages. The main characters – Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe, and Gloria the hippo – are instantly likable, and their personalities and relationships grow throughout the series. Even the more recent film, which focused on different characters, benefited from the memorable penguins, who were compelling enough to carry their own story.
As a big animation fan, I’ve always been surprised by how well the Madagascar movies have been received. It’s cool that almost all of them have a ‘fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes – the first one is the only one that didn’t quite make the cut with critics, scoring 55%. But audiences? They consistently love these films! Even the lowest-rated one still has a pretty good score on the Rotten Tomatoes ‘Popcornmeter’ – around 63% for Penguins of Madagascar. Honestly, even when they aren’t perfect, the Madagascar movies are always a blast – super energetic, funny, and perfect for family movie night.
Other Family-Friendly Movies Now on Peacock
Peacock is offering a lot of family-friendly movies in March! The month kicked off with the entire Madagascar series, plus the DreamWorks superhero film Megamind. More DreamWorks fun arrives on March 24th with the addition of The Wild Robot. And it’s not just DreamWorks – you can also stream Sonic the Hedgehog and the beloved ‘90s movie Little Rascals starting March 1st.
