As 2025 comes to a close, there are still plenty of exciting science fiction movies on the way. Some of the most anticipated releases this year include Mickey 17, Companion, and The Assessment. However, the year could be remembered for the sci-fi films still to come. New installments in two major franchises are scheduled for release this November and December, alongside a remake of a classic 80s movie, an animated feature, and a promising independent sci-fi film. Sci-fi has always delivered incredible visuals, compelling characters, and captivating stories, so both serious movie fans and casual viewers are expected to turn out for these new releases.
Okay, fellow movie lovers, get ready! There are five sci-fi flicks hitting screens in the next couple of months that I think are totally worth checking out. I’m already marking my calendar!
5) Predator: Badlands

I’m really excited for Predator: Badlands – it’s shaping up to be one of the biggest sci-fi movies of the year! Dan Trachtenberg, who did such a great job with Prey, is directing, and it’s going to be different than anything we’ve seen before. This time, the story actually focuses on a Predator as the main character, which is a really cool idea. The movie follows a young Predator, played by Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, as he teams up with a synthetic human created by Weyland-Yutani – Elle Fanning – and they face a lot of tough fights along the way.
With a lot riding on Predator: Badlands, fans are understandably excited. Director Trachtenberg’s new film aims to expand the Predator universe and could even lead to a crossover with the Alien franchise. If Badlands delivers the same stunning visuals and thrilling action as Prey, it could become the best Predator movie yet and signal a strong future for the series.
Predator: Badlands will open in theaters on November 7th.
4) The Running Man

Edgar Wright’s The Running Man is the second movie based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, after the 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The story takes place in a dark, futuristic world and follows Ben Richards (Glen Powell) as he competes in a dangerous game show, hoping to win the prize money to help his ill daughter.
The new film version of The Running Man has a lot to live up to, but director Wright seems to have assembled a strong cast that could make it even better than the original. Featuring actors like Colman Domingo, Josh Brolin, Emilia Jones, Lee Pace, and Katy O’Brian alongside Glen Powell, this Running Man has the potential to be a major success. The trailer showcases exciting action and humor, suggesting this sci-fi thriller could really stand out. While some are tired of remakes, this is one movie audiences shouldn’t miss.
The Running Man hits theaters on November 14th.
3) Arco

A new animated science fiction film called Arco is coming soon! Directed by Ugo Bienvenu and produced by Natalie Portman, the movie features a unique concept: rainbows are the key to traveling through time. The story follows a boy who travels from the future to our time and teams up with a girl to find his way back home.
With its vibrant and eye-catching animation, Arco promises to be a truly captivating film. Critics have already given the French-language movie high marks, with an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Many reviewers are praising its touching story and how well it pairs with the stunning visuals. While Arco may not be a big-budget action film, it’s definitely worth checking out as we head into the end of 2025.
Arco releases in theaters on November 14th.
2) Altered

Despite not generating much hype, Altered is one of five upcoming sci-fi films scheduled to be released in the next two months. Written and directed by Timo Vuorensola, the movie is set in a world where genetically modified humans are commonplace. The story follows Leon (Tom Felton) and Chloe (Liza Bugulova) as they fight back against an unfair and corrupt system.
The trailer for Altered suggests a fast-paced and exciting science fiction action movie. It promises a compelling story with a dark, futuristic setting, interesting characters, and intense action. Plus, it’s a significant role for Tom Felton – his first leading part in six years – giving the Harry Potter actor a chance to showcase his talent. Even with so many big releases this year, Altered has the potential to stand out and captivate audiences.
Altered will release in limited theaters on November 21st.
1) Avatar: Fire and Ash
![]()
Movie fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash this winter. The third film in the Avatar series, directed by James Cameron, revisits the world of Pandora and introduces a new Na’vi tribe called the Ash People. Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), still mourning the loss of their son, must navigate new difficulties as the vengeful Quaritch (Stephen Lang) returns to threaten their family.
As a huge cinema fan, I have to admit following up Avatar and The Way of Water seemed like an impossible challenge, but James Cameron consistently blows me away. The first glimpses of Avatar: Fire and Ash show absolutely stunning visuals – seriously, the effects look incredible! – and suggest a really powerful, emotional story packed with thrilling action. The Way of Water already proved Cameron could go even bigger than the original Avatar, and this new film feels like it could top them both. Honestly, I’m expecting Avatar: Fire and Ash to be a massive hit – it’s going to be the movie everyone is talking about when it’s released.
Avatar: Fire and Ash opens in theaters on December 19th.
