Every Record Broken by KPop Demon Hunters

Since its release on Netflix on June 20th, KPop Demon Hunters has become a global hit. Remarkably, it’s still among the top 10 most-watched movies on the platform six months later. For the week of December 8th to 14th, it ranked fifth in the U.S. and fourth worldwide. The movie’s long run in the Top 10 is a new record for a Netflix film, and it’s likely to remain unbeaten for quite some time—at least until the sequel arrives.

And honestly, KPop isn’t just breaking one record – it’s smashing tons! I’m excited to walk you through all of them. Plus, with awards season right around the corner, I have a feeling we’re about to see even more records fall. It’s a really incredible time to be a fan!

13) First Netflix Movie to Win the Weekend Box Office

Okay, so this is a weird one. I was totally surprised to hear that KPop actually topped the weekend box office in August, even though it had been streaming on Netflix for two months already! And get this – it only played in theaters on Saturday and Sunday, but still managed it. When Netflix gave it another theatrical run two months later, it didn’t do nearly as well, but honestly, it had already made a killing. You know Netflix usually avoids putting their stuff in cinemas, but KPop was just too popular to ignore, and it totally paid off – they made around $18 million in just two days!

12) “Soda Pop,” Then “Golden,” Ranked Number One on the Top Gabb Music Songs Chart

Top Gabb is similar to the Billboard charts, but it focuses exclusively on music suitable for kids. Currently, two KPop songs are at the top of the chart: “Soda Pop” by Saja Boy and “Golden” by HUNTR/X.

11) Saja Boys Became the Highest Charting K-pop Boy Band in US Spotify History

The song “Your Idol,” featured near the end of the film, propelled the Saja Boys to the top of Spotify charts in the U.S. They surpassed even BTS’s “Dynamite,” which peaked at number three. This makes the Saja Boys the highest-ranking boy band ever on US Spotify.

10) HUNTR/X Became the Highest Charting K-pop Girl Group in US Spotify History

HUNTR/X’s song “Golden” has made history on the US Spotify charts. Initially reaching number two on July 3rd, it surpassed Blackpink to become the highest-charting female K-pop group ever on the platform. A week later, on July 8th, “Golden” climbed to the number one spot, making HUNTR/X the first female K-pop group to top the US Spotify chart. This achievement represents two separate records for the group.

9) “Golden” Placed at Number One on the UK Official Singles Chart

Starting August 1st, the song “Golden” reached the top of the UK Singles Chart. This accomplishment put it in rare company, becoming only the second K-pop song to ever achieve this, following the success of Psy’s “Gangnam Style.” It was also the first song performed by a fictional band to hit number one since Peter Kay’s Animated All Star Band released “The Official BBC Children in Need Medley” in 2009. “Golden” stayed at the top spot for a total of ten weeks (not all in a row), making it the longest-running number one hit by a fictional band since The Archies’ “Sugar, Sugar” in 1969.

8) “Golden” Placed at Number One on the Billboard Hot 100

As a huge music fan, I was really following the rise of HUNTR/X’s “Golden.” It was amazing! When it first appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 in early July, it was way down at number 81. But then, just two weeks later, it shot up into the Top 10! Before we knew it, it hit number one, making HUNTR/X the first girl group to achieve that since Destiny’s Child back in 2001. Even more impressively, “Golden” was the first K-pop song with female lead singers to ever top the charts – a total breakthrough!

7) The First Soundtrack to Feature Four Songs in the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10

At the end of August, the soundtrack for KPop Demon Hunters made history as the first ever—animated or live-action—to land four songs in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Those songs were “Golden” at number one, “Your Idol” at four, “Soda Pop” at five, and “How It’s Done” at ten.

6) Most Successful Soundtrack of 2025 on Billboard 200

The film’s soundtrack was the biggest success of 2025 according to the Billboard 200 chart, and it was the only soundtrack to reach number one all year. It actually hit the top spot twice – once on September 20th and again on October 11th. As of December 20th, after spending 25 weeks on the chart, it’s still holding strong at number three.

5) The Soundtrack Went Double Platinum

Last October, the RIAA recognized Harry Styles’ album “Golden” as Double Platinum, meaning it sold over two million copies. Several of his other songs – including “How It’s Done,” “Soda Pop,” “Your Idol,” and “What It Sounds Like” – each achieved Platinum status. The entire album soundtrack also earned a Platinum certification.

4) HUNTR/X Topped the Billboard Global 200 List

“Golden” quickly became a global hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Global 200 chart just weeks after its release. It stayed in the top spot for a total of eighteen weeks between July 19th and December 13th, though not continuously.

3) The Longest a Movie Has Been in the Top 10 on Netflix

After fifteen weeks, KPop Demon Hunters became the first movie to stay in Netflix’s Top 10 for that long, surpassing Red Notice, which left after fourteen weeks. This happened back in early October, and the film has continued to stay popular, remaining in the Top 10 for another eleven weeks.

It ranked fifth in the U.S. for the week of December 8th to 14th, holding the same position as the week before. Previously, it was in second place. This means it’s likely to stay within the Top 10 for a while – and even after dropping out, it will probably remain close to the top. It’s continuing to gain both new viewers and repeat watchers.

2) The Most Streamed Animated Movie in Netflix’s History

After just six weeks, Demon Hunters became the most-watched animated film ever on Netflix. It surpassed other popular animated movies like Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, The Sea Beast, and The Mitchells vs. the Machines in viewership.

1) The Most Streamed Movie in Netflix’s History

Netflix doesn’t usually share how many people watch its shows and movies, but it does reveal the most popular titles. They track a film’s performance for the first 90 days to determine its overall popularity, including an all-time ranking. Currently, KPop is the most-watched film with 236 million views – and that number has likely increased since then, thanks to strong initial interest and positive word-of-mouth.

This new release has already surpassed several popular Netflix films, including Red Notice (230.9 million views), Carry-On (172.1 million views), Don’t Look Up (171.4 million views), The Adam Project (157.6 million views), and Bird Box (157.4 million views). It will be fascinating to see how the sequel performs over its first 90 days. It’s difficult to envision anything challenging KPop Demon Hunters’ success.
