Resident Evil Requiem feels like a classic Resident Evil game by bringing back characters from throughout the series’ history. While Resident Evil 7 and Village focused on new characters and settings, Requiem mixes in familiar faces with new ones. This makes the ninth main game feel more connected to the overall story and especially satisfying for longtime fans who have played all the previous installments.
As a huge Resident Evil fan, I was so excited to see some familiar faces in Resident Evil Requiem! I’ve put together a list of all the characters who’ve appeared in previous games. Just a heads-up, though – there are spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen it yet, so keep reading if you’re okay with that!
Leon S. Kennedy

It’s no surprise to see Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil Requiem. He’s one of the two characters players can control, alongside the new character Grace Ashcroft. Even though he’s more experienced, Leon remains his usual quick-witted and skilled self, unfazed by zombies. This installment also gives Leon a more personal and impactful storyline, allowing for great character growth.
Alyssa Ashcroft

Alyssa Ashcroft is Grace’s mother and was first introduced in the game Resident Evil Outbreak. She was a journalist reporting from Raccoon City when the T-virus outbreak began, and she was one of the few people who survived. Sadly, Alyssa dies in Resident Evil Requiem, which sets the stage for her daughter Grace’s story.
Sherry Birkin

Sherry was first seen as a child in Resident Evil 2, where she was rescued and managed to escape Raccoon City with Leon and Claire. Years later, she returned as an adult in Resident Evil 6, and players could control her during Jake Muller’s story.
In Requiem, Sherry doesn’t directly control the action; she assists Leon as a support character. Working remotely as a hacker, she provides Leon with information and guidance as he searches for Grace and tries to find a cure for the infection they both share.
Oswell E. Spencer

Spencer has always been an important figure in the Resident Evil series, ever since the beginning. As a founder of the Umbrella Corporation, he’s frequently talked about, but rarely seen in the games themselves. However, Requiem changes that, featuring him in several key cutscenes that reveal a major plot twist. Despite being deceased for two decades by the time Requiem takes place, Spencer remains one of the most crucial characters in the Resident Evil story.
HUNK (Maybe?)

A character who strongly resembles HUNK, the well-known military expert from Umbrella, appears in Resident Evil Requiem, though the game doesn’t explicitly confirm his identity. Late in the game, Leon battles this look-alike, who is eager to fight him. Leon defeats and kills the character in a close-quarters combat encounter before continuing his mission.
Although the game never directly confirms this enemy is HUNK, it strongly suggests it. The character is only labeled as “The Commander” in the game’s extra content, adding to the ambiguity. I believe this is intentionally HUNK, but Capcom might be keeping things vague to allow for a more official return of the character later on.
Albert Wesker (Sort of)

Despite seemingly dying in a volcano at the end of Resident Evil 5, Albert Wesker reappears in Resident Evil Requiem, though in a different role. The game’s primary antagonist turns out to be Zeno, a power-hungry individual who works for The Connections – a dangerous terrorist organization responsible for numerous bioweapon outbreaks worldwide. Not much is currently known about Zeno himself.
The story hints that Zeno is a clone of Albert Wesker, inheriting all of Wesker’s powers and skills. Like Wesker, Zeno also has a distinctive style, characterized by sunglasses, a white suit, and neatly combed hair.
Mr. X

Okay, so I was playing Resident Evil: Requiem and I was totally surprised to see Mr. X again! It’s not exactly the same Mr. X from Resident Evil 2 though – it’s more like they rebuilt the Tyrant monster. He looks pretty much identical, still rocking that awesome leather jacket, but sadly, his hat is missing. It was a cool touch in the original, and I was hoping to see it again!
Various Bosses

Throughout Resident Evil Requiem, you’ll encounter many bosses that are nods to past games. For example, the large spider Leon battles in Raccoon City, called the Titan Spinner, is similar to spiders from Resident Evil and Code Veronica. Plant 43, originally from the Resident Evil 2 remake, returns and has spread widely throughout the city. Finally, the game’s ultimate boss, Victor Gideon, is infected with the same strain of the T-Virus that affected Nemesis, giving him a form reminiscent of the iconic villain from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.
