That wraps up Season 2 of *Peacemaker*. The story follows Christopher Smith’s search for acceptance, which leads him to encounter and ultimately replace an alternate version of himself after a tragic accident. Things get complicated when Rick Flag Sr. and A.R.G.U.S. start pursuing Peacemaker, prompting his friends, the 11th Street Kids, to reveal the existence of Earth-X and rescue him. The season culminates in a finale where Peacemaker is feeling incredibly down, believing he brings misfortune to everything he touches. He really needs a boost, and based on what James Gunn has said, it seems like a major guest appearance might be just what he gets.
James Gunn, the creative force behind the DC Universe, said that the second season of *Peacemaker* would significantly impact the future of the franchise. He was right, but the season finale didn’t feature any surprise appearances from major characters. Despite rumors, even Lex Luthor, who appeared in a previous episode, didn’t return. Here’s a list of all the expected cameos that didn’t make it into *Peacemaker* Season 2.
6) Superman
The beginning of *Peacemaker* Season 2 immediately confirms the show is now part of the DC Universe, featuring a team-up with Superman and the Justice League during the battle against the Butterflies. While Superman briefly appeared as a shadowy figure, hinting at his return, it’s actually his rival who shows up and creates a complicated situation for Peacemaker’s father that will likely need resolving later on.
5) Martian Manhunter
The show *Superman* includes a subtle nod to Martian Manhunter, showing that his favorite brand of cookies is also available in the DC Universe. James Gunn has confirmed the character will appear in future projects. While some fans thought Langston Fleury might be the Martian Manhunter, his story actually begins with him choosing to work with Checkmate instead of revealing his powers.
4) Blue Beetle
I’ve been following the buzz about Blue Beetle appearing in *Peacemaker* Season 2, and it’s been hard to figure out where this whole thing started. James Gunn has often talked about how much he likes the *Blue Beetle* movie and wanting to include the character in the DCU soon. People thought that meant we might see Jaime Reyes join the Sons of Liberty and fight against the bad guys from Earth-X. But since that Nazi-controlled Earth-X didn’t actually show up in the finale, it looks like there just wasn’t a place for Blue Beetle in the story after all.
3) G.I. Robot
After learning about the Earth-X universe, many fans expected to see the character G.I. Robot appear, as his defining trait is a strong hatred of Nazis and a willingness to fight them at all costs. James Gunn had even hinted at a live-action version of the character. However, the *Peacemaker* show ultimately decided against including G.I. Robot, shifting its focus away from the Earth-X storyline and instead centering on Flag Sr.’s quest for Salvation.
2) The Creature Commandos
Now that Flag Sr. is a key character in *Peacemaker* Season 2, fans expected him to reconnect with his old team from *Creature Commandos*. The animated series established this new version of the team as being based at Belle Reeve, the same prison where they meet with Flag Sr. But despite being held there, the monsters aren’t seen in *Peacemaker*; they remain locked up while Flag Sr. struggles with his own issues.
1) Brainiac
Before the finale of *Peacemaker*, James Gunn hinted it would connect directly to *Superman: Man of Tomorrow*, a sequel where Superman will team up with his arch-nemesis. The appearance of Lex Luthor as part of the Salvation group proves Gunn kept his promise, although fans were hoping for an even bigger reveal. Many speculated that the portals A.R.G.U.S. investigated would unleash Brainiac, setting him up as a major threat in the DC Universe.
Peacemaker Season 2 is streaming on HBO Max.
