Every Star Trek Star Who Also Appeared in Stargate

Many actors who became famous in Star Trek also had roles in the Stargate series. The 1990s were a particularly successful time for Star Trek on television, with The Next Generation continuing its run and Deep Space Nine and Voyager joining it. However, the decade also saw the beginning of the Stargate franchise, starting with Stargate SG-1 in 1997.

Considering how close together Stargate and Star Trek were made, it’s not surprising many of the same actors appeared in both shows. While some had smaller parts, several well-known stars played important roles in both franchises. Here’s a list of those actors.

11) Ronny Cox

Ronny Cox is well-known for playing Edward Jellico in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Jellico was a stern and difficult character who briefly commanded the Enterprise while Captain Picard was away on a mission, but his leadership didn’t succeed. Cox later returned to the Star Trek universe in Star Trek: Legacy as an admiral. He also appeared in Stargate: SG-1 as Senator Robert Kinsey, a dishonest politician who opposed the Stargate program due to his beliefs. Kinsey eventually became Vice-President before his corruption was revealed.

10) John de Lancie

John de Lancie is widely recognized for playing Q, the mischievous and powerful being who often challenged Captain Jean-Luc Picard. He also appeared on Stargate: SG-1 as Colonel Frank Simmons, a representative of the National Intelligence Department (NID). The NID, a U.S. government agency, often conflicted with the Stargate Command, and Simmons consistently created difficulties for the SG-1 team—even shooting Colonel O’Neill during a secret operation. Simmons became a recurring antagonist, eventually being taken over by a Goa’uld and ejected into space.

9) Marina Sirtis

Marina Sirtis, famous for playing Counselor Deanna Troi on Star Trek: The Next Generation, also appeared in the Stargate SG-1 episode ā€œWatergate.ā€ She’s one of only two main cast members from The Next Generation to be involved in the Stargate franchise. In the episode, Sirtis played Svetlana Markov, a Russian soldier who had worked extensively with the Russian team attempting to operate their own Stargate, before their project met with disaster. She was sent as an envoy to Stargate Command.

8) Colm Meaney

As a huge sci-fi fan, I always get a kick out of spotting actors who cross over between shows. It’s really cool how Colm Meaney, best known as Miles O’Brien from Star Trek: The Next Generation, also ended up in Stargate. He actually started as a bit player in the TNG pilot, then became a regular on Deep Space Nine. But did you know he later showed up in Stargate: Atlantis? In the first season episode ā€œUnderground,ā€ he played the leader of the Genii, a group that was definitely not friendly to the folks at Atlantis!

7) RenƩ Auberjonois

RenĆ© Auberjonois is best known for his role as Odo, the memorable Changeling Chief of Security on Deep Space Nine. He played a very different, less likable character in Stargate: SG-1, portraying a leader who resembled a Nazi. His villainous character, Alar, met a violent end when Colonel O’Neill quickly closed the Stargate’s iris, trapping him on the other side.

6) Armin Shimerman

Armin Shimerman, best known as Quark, the shrewd Ferengi businessman on Deep Space Nine, also had a role on Stargate: SG-1. He played Anteaus, an alien who initially suspected the SG-1 team of being killers, but later learned to trust them. Anteaus was one of the Nox, and shared their initial skepticism.

5) Nicole de Boer

Nicole de Boer joined the cast of Deep Space Nine as Ezri Dax, but the character wasn’t widely embraced by fans, largely because she followed the popular Jadzia Dax. Ezri took over as the host of the Dax symbiont after Jadzia’s death, and her character felt rushed in the show’s last season. Later, de Boer played Doctor Alison Porter on Stargate: Atlantis, appearing in just one episode as a scientist who joined the expedition during its fifth season.

4) Robert Picardo

Robert Picardo is well-known for his role as the Emergency Medical Hologram on Star Trek: Voyager. His character experienced significant growth throughout the series and remains a fan favorite. He later became a prominent recurring character in Stargate, playing Richard Woolsey. Woolsey initially appeared as a skeptical intelligence officer who didn’t support the Stargate Command, but eventually became commander of the Atlantis expedition during Season 5 of Stargate: Atlantis.

3) Connor Trinneer

Connor Trinneer is well-known for his roles in science fiction. In Star Trek: Enterprise, he played Trip Tucker, the resourceful chief engineer and second-in-command under Captain Archer. Trip was a particularly popular character because he felt like an ordinary person placed in extraordinary circumstances, ultimately making the ultimate sacrifice for his captain. He also appeared in Stargate: Atlantis as Michael Kenmore, a unique and dangerous character – a human-Wraith hybrid created by a retrovirus. Calling himself Lastlight, Michael became a powerful enemy.

2) John Billingsley

John Billingsley is famous for his role as Dr. Phlox, the Denobulan chief medical officer, in Star Trek: Enterprise. He also appeared in Stargate as Doctor Simon Coombs, a scientist who sometimes assisted SG-1. Interestingly, his Stargate character was a big Star Trek fan!

1) Jolene Blalock

Jolene Blalock is known for her role as Commander T’Pol on Enterprise, where she made history as the first Vulcan to serve on a human starship. Throughout the show’s four seasons, T’Pol’s character developed as she struggled with divided loyalties to both the Vulcan people and her crewmates. Blalock also had a guest role on Stargate: SG-1, playing Ishta, a rebel priestess who shared a romantic moment with Teal’c.
