As a movie fan, I’ve noticed sequels are taking longer and longer to arrive! We just got *28 Years Later* in 2025, almost two decades after *28 Weeks Later*. And *Avatar: Fire and Ash* is coming out soon, reminding us of the big gap between the first *Avatar* and its follow-up. But get this – there’s a movie planned for 2027 that *really* breaks the mold. It’s *Spaceballs 2*, a sequel to a film from 1987! It’s finally delivering on that promise Yogurt made in the original, though getting it made after all these years is proving to be quite the undertaking.
As a huge film fan, I’m really excited about what *Spaceballs 2* is aiming for – it’s planning to playfully riff on pop culture from the last forty years! The teaser hints at references to the Marvel and DC universes, but let’s be real, *Star Wars* is the main target, since it was the inspiration for the first *Spaceballs* movie. I’ve been wondering which *Star Wars* characters they’ll parody in the sequel, and here’s a rundown of the ones most deserving of a send-up.
7) General Hux

The original *Spaceballs* featured a character similar to Grand Moff Tarkin in Colonel Sandurz, and he returns in the sequel. The movie also acknowledges General Hux from the more recent *Star Wars* films, who has a surprisingly strange storyline. After Kylo Ren takes charge in *Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker*, Hux becomes a traitor, resulting in some unintentionally funny scenes.
6) Din Djarin

The first Star Wars TV series after the original movies, *The Mandalorian*, follows a compelling bounty hunter named Din Djarin. Though he initially appears distant, he gradually becomes more open and protective of a cute companion who travels with him. A key internal struggle for Din is whether to remove his helmet or not. It would be great if *Spaceballs 2* included a few jokes referencing Pedro Pascal.
5) Grogu

When it comes to Disney’s *Star Wars*, Grogu, often called ‘The Child,’ perfectly represents this new era. The adorable character, who can’t talk, consistently steals the spotlight and is featured on all sorts of products. Now that Yoda is back, it’s sure to be interesting to hear his thoughts on another member of his species.
4) Jar Jar Binks

The movie *Spaceballs* focuses solely on the story of the first three *Star Wars* films, offering a shorter version of the battle between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire. While a follow-up might be eager to jump ahead to the later films, it really needs to cover the prequel trilogy and its characters, even Jar Jar Binks. The filmmakers have an opportunity to handle the often negative reaction actors get for playing comedic roles in family-friendly franchises in a thoughtful way.
3) Supreme Leader Snoke

The death of Supreme Leader Snoke remains the most debated part of the recent *Star Wars* sequels. Instead of revealing more about the villain’s history, the film *The Last Jedi* had Kylo Ren unexpectedly kill him while he was speaking. The creators of a new *Star Wars* movie, including Josh Gad, are likely considering all the discussion surrounding Snoke as they develop their new characters.
2) Kylo Ren

It’s almost certain that Kylo Ren will be parodied in *Spaceballs 2*, and Adam Driver deserves credit for his performance. He did a fantastic job with the character, even though the story kept changing and his alignment shifted frequently. With Lewis Pullman playing Lone Star’s son, Starburst, we can expect some jokes referencing Ben Solo.
1) Ahsoka Tano

It’s easy to forget that *Star Wars: The Clone Wars* gave us Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice after the prequel movies ended. Ahsoka Tano is a fantastic character, and the unusual way she was introduced makes her a fitting addition to the upcoming Star Wars parody film.
Spaceballs 2 hits theaters in 2027.
If a sequel to *Spaceballs* was made, which Star Wars character would you want to see parodied? Share your thoughts in the comments and join the discussion on the ComicBook Forum!
