Today, it’s challenging not to encounter similarities among the numerous franchises that have emerged. Even rivals like DC and Marvel find themselves sharing actors occasionally. For instance, Christian Bale played Batman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy and later appeared as Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder, while Nicholas Hoult portrayed Hank McCoy (Beast) in the X-Men series before taking on the role of Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman. Moreover, the superhero genre isn’t the only one experiencing popularity; zombie films continue to be financially successful, largely due to the influence of The Walking Dead.
The popular TV show from AMC, sharing its name with a comic by Robert Kirkman, spans across 11 seasons and multiple spin-offs. Notable actors who have crossed paths with Rick Grimes and his team during their journey towards stardom in another big franchise are part of this list. Here’s every actor from “The Walking Dead” who has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
1) Michael Rooker
Among many performers, Michael Rooker truly shines like a beacon. He portrays Meryl Dixon, Daryl Dixon’s brother, in multiple seasons of “The Walking Dead,” often clashing with Rick due to their differing viewpoints. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Rooker encounters a similar dynamic as Yondu Udonta, a surrogate father figure to Peter Quill, who practices an unconventional form of parenthood.
2) Jon Bernthal
Initially in “The Walking Dead”, Rick Grimes lies injured in a hospital bed, compelling his comrade, Shane Walsh, to safeguard his family. Shane exhibits a harsh demeanor, which Jon Bernthal mirrors whenever he dons the skull suit portraying Frank Castle (the Punisher) within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
3) Danai Gurira
Initially, Rick’s team found Danai Gurira’s portrayal of Michonne puzzling due to her walking with walkers on leashes and wielding a katana. However, they quickly grew accustomed to her peculiarities as she demonstrated impressive combat skills. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Gurira’s character, Okoye, exhibits similar traits, carrying a weapon and often making larger adversaries appear foolish.
4) Ross Marquand
Aaron doesn’t join the primary gang until later installments of “The Walking Dead,” yet he’s just as menacing as Rick, Daryl, and their peers. The actor who portrays him, Ross Marquand, carries that aggressive streak over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he plays the villainous Red Skull in “Avengers: Infinity War.
5) Lauren Ridloff
1) In Season 9 of “The Walking Dead,” Alexandria introduces a fresh batch of characters, among them Connie, portrayed by Lauren Ridloff, who develops a romantic interest in Daryl. Interestingly, Ridloff’s character, Makkari, from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, also experiences love, forming a relationship with another Eternal named Druig.
6) Elizabeth Ludlow
In “The Walking Dead” Season 7, Negan exerts his tyranny over Alexandria, and Arat, portrayed by Elizabeth Ludlow, stands as one of his most formidable soldiers. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe offers a different narrative for Ludlow in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”, casting her as an alien mother desperately trying to flee Ego’s Expansion with her child.
7) Corey Hawkins
To this very day, the enigma about Heath’s location continues to linger in “The Walking Dead”, as his character vanished without a hint. Actor Corey Hawkins departed from the series to explore new opportunities, none of which involve the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he plays a mere computer operator in “Iron Man 3”.
8) Joshua Mikel
It’s astonishing to think that there could be individuals more ruthless than Negan within the Saviors, but it seems that Jared is indeed one of them. He’s all about self-interest and often betrays others for his own gain. Unfortunately, the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t provided Joshua Mikel with an opportunity to fully portray his Walking Dead character, as he was cast as a bodyguard in Ant-Man and the Wasp instead.
9) Michael James Shaw
In the final episode of “The Walking Dead,” the team encounters the Commonwealth, and their forces are commanded by Mercer, portrayed by Michael James Shaw. On the small screen, Shaw has a chance to make amends for past actions, but playing Corvus Glaive in Marvel’s Thanos storyline doesn’t give him an opportunity to correct his errors on the big screen.
10) Kerry Condon
In Season 4 of “The Walking Dead,” Rick encounters a puzzling lady named Clara in the woods; he goes out of his way to assist her. Regrettably, she’s beyond help, which might have made Rick wish she were a robot, unable to harm him. However, Kerry Condon gets an opportunity to rectify things in the MCU by providing the voice for F.R.I.D.A.Y., Tony Stark’s artificially intelligent assistant.
11) Jordan Woods
Aaron’s companion on “The Walking Dead”, Eric, assists him during challenging situations. Intriguingly, Jordan Woods, who portrays Eric, also features in “Loki” as a time-variant authority analyst, allowing them to explore another dimension together.
12) Cailey Fleming
Following the significant time leap in “The Walking Dead”, Cailey Fleming takes over as Rick’s daughter, Judith. Interestingly, Fleming doesn’t need extensive adjustments to portray a youthful Sylvie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as she learns early on that she desires to dismantle the current system.
13) Matt Lintz
In her own MCU series, Ms. Marvel finds herself deep waters, but it’s comforting to know she has friends like Bruno by her side. Moreover, Matt Lintz brilliantly portrays the complex character Henry in later episodes of “The Walking Dead”.
14) Maximiliano Hernández
Maximiliano Hernández’s character Jasper Sitwell stirs up his fair share of troubles within the ranks of Hydra in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Given such circumstances, it’s understandable that he would seek to regain some control, since his role as Rick in The Walking Dead has him capturing a cop character portrayed by Hernández.
15) Colby Minifie
In simpler terms, Jessica Jones’ neighbor, Robyn (portrayed by Colby Minifie), holds a grudge against Kilgrave due to his role in killing her brother. However, instead of learning from past experiences, Minifie reprises this antagonistic role as Virginia in the series Fear the Walking Dead.
16) Michelle Hurd
Frank Castle’s actions draw attention from Samantha Reyes, who is the District Attorney aiming to advance her career. Unlike Michelle Hurd’s character Jones, who doesn’t harbor such ambitions within the universe of “The Walking Dead”, she still manages to thrive, operating a business in the spinoff series “Dead City”.
17) Danny Ramirez
Joaquín Torres is now part of Sam Wilson’s Avengers squad, implying he has a promising career ahead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. On the other hand, Danny Ramirez’s character Eric from “Tales of the Walking Dead” unfortunately met an untimely end shortly after his debut.
18) Nick Gomez
In Season 3 of The Walking Dead, Rick along with his companions encounter another group, which includes prisoners. Though Rick is open to collaboration, Tomas (portrayed by Nick Gomez) turns out to be more problematic than useful. As it turns out, Gomez continues to embody villainous roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he plays a part of the Wrecking Crew in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
19) Rhys Coiro
After the Saviors lose, some surviving members are assigned tasks, among them is Jed, played by Rhys Coiro, who voices his displeasure about the working conditions. Fortunately, for Coiro, he has a more favorable role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), portraying Donny Blaze, a Master of the Mystic Arts.
20) Aaron Stanford
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Pyro first appears in the movie titled “Deadpool & Wolverine“, joining Cassandra Nova’s army and covertly monitoring the villain at Mr. Paradox’s request. The character portrayed by Aaron Stanford in “Fear the Walking Dead“, Jim, is unwaveringly loyal to his friends, even willing to sacrifice himself for their safety.
21) Colman Domingo
As a dedicated cinephile, I can’t second-guess where Victor Strand is headed next on Fear the Walking Dead – he’s got this knack for being involved on both sides of any situation. Interestingly enough, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Colman Domingo brings his unique take on Victor to life as Norman Osborn in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
The Walking Dead is streaming on Netflix.
