As a huge MCU fan, I’ve always loved the Hulk! He’s easily one of the strongest heroes they have. It’s a little weird though, because sometimes the movies don’t show that strength, and he ends up feeling surprisingly weak. Ever since he first appeared way back in the 2008 Incredible Hulk movie, he’s become a key player, a real powerhouse. He’s been a core Avenger from the start, showing up in tons of movies, usually as the team’s go-to muscle. And it’s not just brute strength – they’ve also used Bruce Banner’s brains, which is great. Honestly, Hulk and Banner have always felt like some of the most valuable heroes in the whole universe.
The Hulk’s portrayal hasn’t always been consistent throughout the franchise. While there are some truly impressive fight scenes featuring him, there are also moments where he seems surprisingly weak. Essentially, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has fallen into a pattern of undercutting the Hulk’s strength, showing him losing battles he should win or generally appearing less powerful than fans expect.
7) Being Unable To Lift Mjolnir

While Mjolnir wasn’t a particularly effective weapon against Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the fight scene in The Avengers surprisingly highlights Hulk’s vulnerability in a different way. When Hulk tries to lift Mjolnir, he can’t even budge it, which frustrates him. This scene not only shows Hulk isn’t worthy of the hammer, but also portrays the incredibly strong character as having definite limits to his physical power.
6) Being Manipulated By Wanda & Then Beaten By Iron Man

In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Hulk experiences a particularly difficult setback. Wanda Maximoff uses her powers to enrage him, causing him to transform into his most destructive form and wreak havoc in Johannesburg. This leads to a battle with Iron Man, who uses his Hulkbuster armor. Despite Hulk’s powerful attack, Iron Man defeats him with his advanced technology, making Hulk appear less powerful in comparison to Tony Stark’s calm and strategic approach.
5) Attempting To Fight Surtur

Many fans consider Thor: Ragnarok the best MCU film for developing the Hulk as a character separate from Bruce Banner. The movie’s final battle features Hulk helping Thor fight Hela’s army, but they ultimately fail to save Asgard, which is destroyed. When Thor summons Surtur to obliterate Asgard, Hulk tries to attack the giant fire demon, only to be easily defeated. This moment highlights that while Hulk is incredibly strong, he’s outmatched by truly powerful cosmic entities in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making him appear vulnerable in comparison.
4) Getting Easily Beaten By Thanos

Avengers: Infinity War opens with a confrontation between Thanos and two of the original Avengers. Hulk attempts to fight him, but Thanos quickly and easily defeats him, barely even reacting to Hulk’s attacks. Even considering Thanos had the Power Stone, this was a particularly weak showing for Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
3) Hiding From Thanos

After Thanos defeated Hulk, the Avenger was left visibly weakened. When Bruce Banner returned to Earth, he tried to warn everyone about Thanos’s approaching army, but he couldn’t transform into the Hulk. He explained that the Hulk was deliberately staying hidden, scared of facing Thanos again. This was a surprising change, as fans were used to seeing the Hulk as a constantly angry and powerful hero.
2) Meeting The Ancient One

In Avengers: Endgame, Bruce Banner and the Hulk finally became one combined being, possessing Banner’s intelligence alongside the Hulk’s incredible strength and size. During the movie’s time travel adventure, this combined form, known as Professor Hulk, went back to 2012 and encountered the Ancient One, a very powerful sorcerer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Ancient One effortlessly split Banner and Hulk apart, demonstrating that the Hulk can be surprisingly vulnerable when facing magic-based opponents.
1) His Appearance In She-Hulk

As a huge MCU fan, I was really fascinated by how She-Hulk: Attorney at Law brought so many different Hulks into the mix! But what really stood out was seeing She-Hulk go up against her cousin, Bruce, as part of her training. Honestly, the episode made Professor Hulk seem… well, a little underwhelming. She just seemed to get the hang of transforming so much faster than Bruce ever did, and she even managed to hold her own against the Hulk in a fight, despite being brand new to all of this! It’s kind of crazy when you think about it – here’s someone just starting out, going toe-to-toe with a Hulk who’s been fighting alongside the Avengers for years. It definitely made him look a bit weaker in comparison.
