Every Transformers Series You Can Stream for Free

Transformers first became popular with the original cartoon series in 1984. While some initially dismissed it as just a long commercial for the toys, the show grew beyond that and launched a whole franchise of series and movies focusing on the conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons.

Whether you grew up with the original Transformers or are just discovering the series, many fans want to start with the 1984 show to see where it all began. Luckily, several Transformers series are currently available to watch without a subscription.

4) Transformers (1984)

The first Transformers show was a cartoon created to go along with Hasbro’s popular toys – toys that could change from robots into other things, like cars or weapons. Interestingly, while the show was for kids, the storylines were surprisingly complex and appealed to older viewers as well.

As a lifelong Transformers enthusiast, I can tell you this series is a must-watch. It’s where the whole Autobots versus Decepticons rivalry really begins, and you get to meet iconic characters like Optimus Prime. The best part? It’s super accessible – you can stream it right now on PlutoTV, Tubi, or if you’ve got a Roku device, it’s right there!

3) Transformers: Animated

Transformers: Animated is a fresh take on the classic cartoon. This series, which ran for three seasons on Cartoon Network, tells a self-contained story set after the Autobots have defeated the Decepticons. It follows the Autobots as they work to defend Detroit from new dangers.

While this Transformers series shares the classic battle between Optimus Prime and Megatron, it offers a fresh take on the story rather than being a direct continuation of the original 1984 show. Its unique style and world make it stand out, and it’s definitely worth checking out! You can currently watch Transformers: Animated for free on Tubi.

2) Beast Wars: Transformers

Beast Wars: Transformers is a 1990s animated series notable for its use of computer-generated imagery instead of traditional hand-drawn animation. The show takes place in prehistoric times, following Transformers who crash-land on Earth from the future. To survive, they gain the ability to transform into animals. Despite arriving on Earth together, the heroic Autobots and villainous Decepticons continue their conflict, even though they occasionally face shared threats like dinosaurs.

I’m completely fascinated by the new generation of Transformers in Beast Wars! It’s incredible to learn that the main characters are actually the children of Optimus Prime and Megatron – and now, Megatron’s lineage is known as the Maximals. What’s really cool is that this series cleverly fits both before and after the original Transformers story, but takes place in a totally fresh and exciting world. And the best part? You can watch it all for free on Tubi and Pluto TV!

1) Transformers: Prime

Transformers: Prime is a recent addition to the Transformers franchise, running from 2010 to 2013. The show follows Optimus Prime and his Autobot team – including Ratchet, Arcee, Bumblebee, and Bulkhead – as they work to defend Earth from the Decepticons and their leader, Megatron.

Like the original Transformers, this series features stories about the Autobots and Decepticons. However, it takes place on Earth, forcing the Autobots to team up with humans who must protect their secret. The series introduces the Terrorcons – undead Transformers brought back to life with a powerful energy source called Dark Energon. Furthermore, Transformers: Prime establishes the Predacons as the ancestors of the Decepticons, making it a continuation of the Beast Wars storyline. You can stream Transformers: Prime on the Roku Channel.
