Every Upcoming Pixar Movie Releasing After Hoppers

Pixar’s new movie, Hoppers, is being released at a turning point for the studio. While Pixar can still create huge hits – Inside Out 2 earned $1.6 billion this year – recent films haven’t been as consistently successful. Lightyear and Elio didn’t perform well, and even though Elemental eventually recovered, it didn’t reach the heights of Pixar’s most popular films. This shift is probably due to Pixar starting to release movies on Disney+ during the pandemic, which may have made audiences expect new releases at home.

After the pandemic, it appears movie studios are favoring sequels over original stories. Pixar’s new film, Hoppers, is getting positive feedback and is expected to do well at the box office, which could be a welcome boost for the studio. However, this trend is a bit worrying, as some worry Disney might prioritize sequels over original ideas for future Pixar films. While Pixar still has room for original projects, their upcoming schedule seems to focus heavily on sequels. Here’s a look at the 7 Pixar movies currently planned for release after Hoppers.

1) Toy Story 5 (June 19, 2026)

Seven years after what felt like a perfect ending in Toy Story 4, Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the other toys are back for a new adventure. This time, the challenge comes from technology – Bonnie becomes so focused on her new tablet, Lilypad, that the toys begin to question their purpose. While some fans were unsure about a fifth Toy Story movie, the trailers suggest that director Andrew Stanton and his team have created a worthy addition to the series, filled with Pixar’s signature humor and emotional depth.

2) Gatto (March 5, 2027)

Pixar’s next original film, Gatto, comes from Enrico Casarosa, the director of Luca. Like his previous work, this movie is set in Italy and tells a heartwarming story. It centers on Nero, a black cat who owes a debt to a powerful feline gangster. The film appears to be Pixar’s take on classic crime movies, with Nero finding an unexpected friend as he learns more about himself along the way.

3) Incredibles 3 (2028)

Following the huge success of Incredibles 2, which earned over $1 billion worldwide, Pixar announced they’re working on another Incredibles movie. Details are still limited – we don’t have a release date or know what the story will be about yet. However, we do know Peter Sohn, the director of The Good Dinosaur and Elemental, will be directing this time around. Brad Bird, who directed the first two films, is writing the screenplay and will remain involved in the project.

4) Coco 2 (2029)

Pixar’s Coco was a huge hit in the 2010s, winning two Academy Awards and making over $823 million worldwide. While Coco told a complete story, its success led Pixar to start working on a sequel. Although a release date hasn’t been announced and details about the plot are secret, Coco 2 is officially in development. The original director, Lee Unkrich (known for Toy Story 3), is returning to direct, and Adrian Molina will co-direct again.

5) Monsters Inc 3 (TBC)

I was so excited to read in the Wall Street Journal that they’re actually making Monsters Inc 3! It’s been 13 years since Monsters University, but honestly, with how well Monsters at Work did on Disney+ – two full seasons, the latest just this year – it wasn’t totally out of the blue. Of course, details are scarce right now, but it sounds like we’re going back to that wonderful monster world, and I can’t wait!

6) Ono Ghost Market (TBC)

Pixar’s next film, reportedly titled Ono Ghost Market, is inspired by Asian folklore about magical marketplaces where the living and spirits connect. Originally planned as a series for streaming, it will now be released in theaters. This will be Pixar’s third feature exploring the afterlife, following Coco and Soul—though Mater & The Ghostlight from the Cars franchise also touched on similar themes, it’s a bit different in scope.

7) Pixar’s First Ever Musical

I’m excited to report that Pixar is venturing into new territory with its first-ever musical! It’s coming from Domee Shi, the incredibly talented director behind Turning Red and, let’s be honest, the unfairly overlooked Elio. Right now, details are pretty scarce, but it’s fantastic to see Pixar continuing to take risks and try fresh things.
