Every Villain Confirmed in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Ranked by How Big Their Role Will Probably Be

As a huge Spider-Man fan, I’m so excited that Brand New Day is finally showing us some of the villains we can expect! It looks like the movie is going to be packed with action, not just focusing on Spider-Man, but also including The Punisher and The Incredible Hulk. That means Spidey will be facing off against a ton of bad guys, and I’ve been trying to figure out who will have the biggest impact on the story. Here’s my ranking of all the villains we know about so far, based on how much screen time I think they’ll get.

Everyone is curious about Sadie Sink’s character after the first trailer for Brand New Day. Many believe she’ll play a villain, potentially a major one, but she could also be a heroic character escaping from something, similar to Jean Grey. It’s also unclear whether The Punisher and Hulk will be enemies of Spider-Man. Despite all the unknowns, five villains have been officially confirmed for the film. Here they are, listed from least to most significant.

5) Tarantula

Okay, so the rumors were true – Tarantula is going to be in the new Spider-Man movie! The first trailer finally confirmed it, showing a quick, slow-mo fight between him and Spidey, though we don’t know why they’re fighting yet. Honestly, I had to do a little digging – Tarantula is a pretty obscure villain. He first showed up way back in 1974 as this state-sponsored ‘hero’ for a really nasty South American government. Eventually, he ended up in the US and became a hired killer, which, naturally, puts him on Spider-Man’s radar.

Tarantula isn’t likely to be a key character in the movie. The trailer suggests he’ll appear briefly as one of Spider-Man’s opponents in a fight montage. Some believe the film will jump forward four years after the events of No Way Home, and this montage might show Spider-Man battling Tarantula during that time. However, it’s unlikely Tarantula will have a significant role beyond that quick appearance.

4) Boomerang

Although Boomerang ranks higher on this list, his part in Brand New Day will likely be similar to Tarantula’s. Boomerang is a fitting name for this villain, as he fights crime with boomerangs. Like Tarantula, he’s a relatively minor Spider-Man villain, which is why he appears briefly in the Brand New Day trailer. It’s probable that Peter Parker has fought Boomerang before the movie’s events, but he won’t be central to the main storyline.

3) The Hand

The Hand, a well-known group of villains in Marvel Comics, is returning after appearing in the Netflix Defenders series, this time in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The trailer shows these red-suited, undead ninjas battling Spider-Man both inside a prison and on rooftops, suggesting they’ll have a significant role in the film. While The Hand is traditionally associated with the Daredevil comics, their appearance here could be setting the stage for a larger storyline in the upcoming third season of Daredevil: Born Again.

2) Tombstone

The character Tombstone, played by Marvin Jones III, is coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Tombstone is a tough criminal with incredibly durable skin, making him a major threat in New York City. Because the movie appears to focus on street-level action, many thought he’d be a central figure – some even predicted he’d be the main villain. However, his complete absence from the trailer suggests that might not be the case.

1) Scorpion

Michael Mando is back as Scorpion in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, after a brief appearance following the credits of Spider-Man: Homecoming. The trailer showed Scorpion prominently, even featuring him in a large-scale battle with Spider-Man, suggesting he’ll play a major role in the movie’s storyline compared to the other villains we know about so far.

Scorpion is rarely the primary villain in his own story. He’s usually a pawn, hired or created by someone more powerful, like J. Jonah Jameson or Kingpin. This suggests that in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, someone else – perhaps Tombstone, the DODC, or the mysterious character played by Sadie Sink – might be the real mastermind behind Mac Gargan becoming the Scorpion, making them the true villain.
