Glen Powell and Miles Teller both have upcoming movies planned for 2026, but they recently reminisced about their time together in the 2022 hit, Top Gun: Maverick. Over the New Year’s holiday, Miles Teller’s wife, Keleigh, captured a fun reunion with the cast, including a playful dance-off between Glen Powell and Miles Teller, who played Rooster and Hangman in the film.

It would seem that this video was taken on the New Year’s trip to St. Barths that the Tellers, Powell, and others, like Michelle Randolph, were on. A day before posting this clip on TikTok, Keleigh uploaded a group picture on her Instagram that featured her, Miles, Glen Powell and other famous folks, like Randolph, Alix Earle, Nina Dobrev and Chord Overstreet (who can also be seen in the video). So, it would seem that they rang in the new year in a very fun way.
I really enjoyed how the movie described their rivalry as a “Rooster and Hangman dance off.” Given how often their characters clashed throughout the film (until the very end), it was a clever way to acknowledge their story arc in Maverick.
Okay, so everyone knows Tom Cruise made Top Gun, but it’s fascinating to learn he wasn’t the initial pick for Maverick! And honestly, that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how different the film almost was. Apparently, the original vision for Top Gun was way more focused on a documentary-style approach, and several other elements were on the chopping block too. It really makes you wonder what kind of movie we would have gotten if those early ideas had stuck. It’s a reminder that even iconic films go through massive changes before hitting the big screen.
It’s wonderful to see how close the cast of Top Gun remains, even now. Tom Cruise and Jon Hamm actually shared a room on the aircraft carrier where they filmed, and had affectionate nicknames for each other – “Hangy” and “Roo.” Over the years, their enduring friendship has been evident. Plus, Lewis Pullman and Danny Ramirez are also best friends, and it’s always fun to see Lewis supporting Danny’s work.
This makes me wonder about a possible Top Gun 3. While there’s no script yet, people are discussing it. I’d love to see Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin and Nate ‘Rooster’ Welch return, and especially to see how their relationship has developed since Maverick. Maybe they’re not quite friends yet, but I hope they’ve moved past being rivals.
Overall, seeing the cast get back together and have a little fun reminded me how much I love Top Gun: Maverick. It was a really great experience for them, and since the movie came out, all of their careers have taken off.

Glen Powell and Miles Teller have both been incredibly busy since 2022. Just looking at 2025, Powell starred in the Hulu series Chad Powers and the movie The Running Man. Meanwhile, Teller appeared in the Apple TV film The George and the romantic comedy Eternity, which TopMob named one of the best films of the year.
Both actors have exciting projects coming up in 2026. The actor known for Hangman will star in a film called How to Make a Killing, while the performer from Rooster is cast as John Branca in the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, Michael. It’s clear they had plenty to celebrate and honor the iconic “Danger Zone” song that contributed to their success.
