I was so happy to hear that Fire Country is coming back for a second season! It really shows CBS believes in the show, especially since it’s a newer drama airing on Fridays. Basically, they wanted to build on the world of firefighting they’d already created, focusing on the fictional Edgewater County in California. Fire Country first hit screens on October 17th, 2025, and it quickly became one of CBS’s most popular new shows – I’m definitely glad it’s getting another season!
Following the premiere of Fire Country Season 4, Sheriff Country debuted with around 7.7 million viewers, according to Nielsen ratings. This number beat the performance of S.W.A.T., which previously aired in that same time slot. Within 35 days, Sheriff Country reached over 10 million viewers across all platforms, demonstrating its popularity and growing audience. With a second season coming soon, fans have plenty to look forward to.
What Happened in Sheriff Country Season 1?
I just got a first look at Sheriff Country, and it’s shaping up to be a solid new police procedural and action-drama. It spins off from Fire Country, continuing the story of Bode Leone, and stars Morena Baccarin as Sheriff Mickey Fox. We actually met her character in Season 2 of Fire Country – that episode, ‘Alert the Sheriff,’ was basically a test run for this show. And CBS clearly liked what they saw, because they gave Sheriff Country a straight-to-series order back in May 2024. It’s one to watch if you’re a fan of the genre!
The first season introduces Sheriff Mickey Fox, the leader of the Edgewater County Sheriff’s Office, as she solves crimes in a close-knit Northern California town. The show explores how she manages both the demands of her job and personal struggles, navigating the complexities of family life while maintaining her professionalism as a law enforcement officer.
The show features Mickey leaving her job as a police officer when her daughter, Skye (Amanda Arcuri), becomes the main suspect in a murder. This leads Mickey to conduct her own secret investigation. Meanwhile, Fox deals with local issues like disagreements over marijuana sales and established power dynamics, adding plenty of small-town conflict to the first season.
The first half of Sheriff Country ends with Fox committed to both her job as sheriff and her family, though this commitment comes with challenges that will drive the rest of the season. The show is expected to continue with new episodes starting February 27th, and the first season will likely conclude in May.
Who Stars in CBS’ Sheriff Country?
Morena Baccarin stars as Sheriff Mickey Fox, a strong and principled law enforcement officer dedicated to protecting her town. She also deals with personal struggles, particularly a complicated relationship with her ex-husband, Travis Fraley, played by Christopher Gorham. Their history creates ongoing tension and impacts Mickey’s work.
Cassidy Campbell, portrayed by Michele Weaver, assists Sheriff Mickey with the day-to-day operations of the Edgewater County Sheriff’s Office. As a deputy, she’s a determined professional dealing with complicated personal relationships within the department. Matt Lauria plays Nathan Boone, the sheriff’s reliable second-in-command, known for his level-headed approach and ability to support Sheriff Fox’s leadership.
Amanda Arcuri plays Skye Fraley, Mickey and Travis’ daughter, and her personal struggles contribute to the show’s emotional depth. W. Earl Brown joins the cast as Wes Fox, Mickey’s long-separated father, and his history with the law creates further complications for the family.
Alongside new faces, “Sheriff Country” features returning characters Bode and Sharon Leone, played by Max Thieriot and Diane Farr, who also star in “Fire Country.” Caroline Rhea joins the cast as Gina, the station’s practical and direct administrator. As “Sheriff Country” moves into its second season, expect more characters to be added, further enriching the dramatic stories within the close-knit community of Edgewater.
When Does Sheriff Country Season 2 Premiere?
CBS announced in December 2025 that Sheriff Country will return for a second season. The network cited high ratings, strong viewership across different platforms, and overall audience growth as the reasons for renewing the show (Paramount). The renewal came with the announcement that another new drama on the network would also be continuing for another season.
The popular show Sheriff Country will likely be back on CBS in the fall of 2026 as part of the network’s usual programming. Based on recent scheduling trends, it could premiere around mid-October, continuing to air on Fridays at 8 pm Eastern time.
