Everything We Know About the KPop Demon Hunters Sequel

I’m done hidin’, now I’m shinin’ like I’m born to be—the KPop Demon Hunters sequel, essentially.

Okay, so when that AMAZING animated movie about the K-pop group who also hunt demons landed on Netflix in June, I knew it was huge. Seriously, everyone started watching, and the numbers just kept climbing! It felt obvious from day one that we had to get a sequel – I mean, how could they not?! I’ve been checking for news constantly!

“Keep an eye out for more to come,” said EJAE, the vocalist behind HUNTR/X’s singer Rumi, with a playful tone at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards in September. When asked about future plans, she simply added, “You never know!”

Audrey Nuna, the singer for the band HUNTR/X’s side project Mira, said, “We’re also waiting to hear back.”

Now that the streamer’s biggest hit—viewed by over 500 million people by late 2025 and nominated for Golden Globes including Best Animated Feature, Best Original Song, and a new award for box office success—any previous doubts have likely been put to rest.

Promised Rei Ami, “As soon as we know, we’ll let you know.”

Several weeks later, at Heidi Klum’s yearly Halloween party, the singer behind the energetic rapper Zoey from HUNTR/X insisted she was being completely honest.

I’m right there with everyone else, eagerly awaiting the news! She told TopMob News that we’d all find out together, as soon as she does, and promised we’d talk then. It’s exciting and a little nerve-wracking, but I’m staying tuned!

Although it hasn’t been officially announced, reports suggest Netflix and Sony have agreed to make another film, with a planned release in 2029.

Honestly, we were devastated to learn it would be another three years before seeing what happens with HUNTR/X and their rivals, the Saja Boys. But creating high-quality animation and writing hit songs like “Soda Pop,” “Your Idol,” and “Golden” – which recently won Best Song at the Critics Choice Awards on January 4th – takes time and effort.

Not that producers are second-guessing their strategy.

In an October interview with the BBC, the creator of the series, Maggie Kang, explained why a live-action adaptation wouldn’t work. She believes the show’s humor and style are perfectly suited for animation, and that making it live-action would make the characters feel too realistic and change the overall feel of the show.

Co-director Chris Appelhans shared, “What’s wonderful about animation is its ability to go beyond what’s normally possible and really create something special.”

But they’re eager to show the world how a sequel is done, done, done.

Kang said there are many more stories to tell with these characters and this world, and she’s enthusiastic about the possibilities. She emphasized that any continuation would need to be a worthwhile sequel – something the creators and audience would both enjoy.

For now, though, they’re enjoying their moment.

Kang explained to TopMob that it was unusual to have the entire cast together – including Arden Cho, May Young, and Ji-young Yoo, who voice the characters Rumi, Mira, and Zoey – to celebrate winning two Critics Choice Awards. He called it a ‘special moment’.

Although KPop is expected to have a very successful comeback, the group is currently taking some time to relax and recharge before starting work in the studio.

Asked about their goals for 2026, Kang and her cast joked, “Couch, couch, couch.”

While we wait for the full story to be revealed, let’s celebrate the talented voice actors who have brilliantly brought this world to life over the past seven months.

Arden Cho plays Rumi, the talented lead singer of the KPop group HUNTR/X. Rumi is a strong and skilled fighter who battles both supernatural demons and her personal struggles.

Born in Texas to Korean parents, Cho has been a working actress, singer, and model since 2008. She’s appeared in shows like Teen Wolf, Partner Track, Chicago Med, and the Netflix live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Beyond her other accomplishments, she’s a skilled poker player – she even competed in the 2018 World Series of Poker – and is a trained martial artist with a black belt in taekwondo.

Mira, the demon hunter with a fondness for ramyeon, is brought to life by voice actress May Hong. May is also a model who grew up in Queens, New York, and has worked with major designers like Marc Jacobs, Gucci, and Adidas.

Hong described her character as incredibly strong but also deeply sensitive and easily hurt. She added that she personally identifies with the character because she often comes across as tougher than she is with the people she cares about.

Ji-young Yoo is quickly becoming a well-known actress, and she plays the cheerful character Zoey in the series HUNTR/X. Before landing a role in the Prime Video show Expats with Nicole Kidman, she was a student at the University of Southern California. She’s also recently appeared in Freaky Tales and Until Dawn.

Yoo described Zoey as a very energetic character, which makes her endearing, but also demanding to voice. He told Entertainment Weekly that he focused on building up his own energy levels before recording sessions so he could fully capture her lively personality.

Many of the movie’s key characters have both voice actors and singers bringing them to life. With four of HUNTR/X’s songs hitting the Billboard Hot 100, the trio clearly delivers some impressive and memorable vocals.

The character Rumi’s vocals are performed by EJAE, a talented singer, songwriter, and producer. She’s known for her work with popular K-pop groups like Red Velvet, Twice, Aespa, and NMIXX. After the film’s directors heard demos of songs she wrote – including the chart-topping hit “Golden” and “Your Idol” – they specifically requested EJAE to be the singing voice for Rumi.

I’m a huge fan of Audrey Nuna! She’s incredibly talented – she actually provides the singing voice for Mira. I discovered her back in 2019 when she signed with Arista Records, and I’ve been following her ever since. She’s really known for songs like “Damn Right” and especially “Comic Sans,” which features Jack Harlow – that track is amazing!

Rei Ami is the new vocalist and rapper for the group HUNTR/X, performing as Zoey. Originally from South Korea, she immigrated to Maryland with her family at the age of six. She’s already achieved significant success, with her song “Freak” featuring Sub Urban garnering over 298 million views on YouTube.

Ken Jeong plays Bobby, the dedicated and encouraging manager at HUNTR/X. Before becoming an actor, Jeong was a doctor. He first gained widespread recognition in films like The Hangover and the TV show Community, and currently appears as a panelist on Fox’s The Masked Singer.

Ahn Hyo-seop voices Jinu, the captivating lead singer of the Saja Boys, in the new series KPop Demon Hunters. While this marks his debut voice acting role, Ahn Hyo-seop is already well-known for his appearances in popular K-dramas like Dr. Romantic, Business Proposal, and A Time Called You.

Andrew Choi, a singer and composer, is the voice behind the character Jinu. He first gained recognition as a contestant on the show K-pop Star season two, and has since worked as a producer for popular K-pop groups like Monsta X, EXO, and SHINee.

I’m completely captivated by Celine! It’s amazing to see her brought to life – she’s such a complex character, being a former K-pop idol, a demon hunter, and Rumi’s protector. What makes it even more special is that two incredibly talented performers play her, which really adds depth to the role.

Yunjin Kim is the voice actor for the character Celine. You might recognize her as Sun from the TV show Lost, or from her recent roles in XO, Kitty and Mistresses.

Celine’s singing is performed by Lea Salonga, a famous singer from the Philippines. She’s well-known for originating the role of Kim in the Broadway musical Miss Saigon, and for voicing Princess Jasmine in Disney’s Aladdin and the main character in Mulan.

Daniel Dae Kim plays Healer Han, a unique doctor who attempts to help Rumi after she loses her voice. Kim is a familiar face on television, having appeared in popular shows like Lost, Hawaii Five-0, Angel, The Good Doctor, and Butterfly.

South Korean actor Lee Byung-hun, famous for roles in shows like Squid Game and films such as The Magnificent Seven, provides the voice for the villainous demon king, Gwi-ma.

Maggie Kang, who wrote and co-directed the movie, makes a funny appearance as a flight attendant. She’s shown watering plants with coffee, and later Rumi and her team reveal her to be a demon.

Born in Seoul, Kang immigrated to Toronto with her family at the age of five. She’s a storyboard artist who has contributed to films like Puss in Boots, Kung Fu Panda 3, and Trolls.

Liza Koshy, known for her YouTube videos, now appears as a TV host interviewing the band HUNTR/X about their latest song, “Golden”.

Koshy first became popular on the video-sharing app Vine in 2013, and she’s built a large following on social media ever since. In 2019, Time magazine recognized her as one of the 25 most influential people online. Recently, she’s appeared in the movie The Naked Gun and lent her voice to both Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and the Disney Channel show Hamster & Gretel.

Joel Kim Booster, an actor and comedian known for his stand-up and the popular 2022 film Fire Island (which he both wrote and starred in), voices multiple characters in the movie. He’s also appeared in shows like Shrill, Big Mouth, Loot, and Industry, playing various roles, including Romance Saja, the Variety Show Host and Idol Host.

SungWon Cho, a voice actor who plays the character Abby (also known as the Saja Boy with the impressive abs), is well-known for his work in video games, television, and movies. He also has a successful YouTube channel called ProZD.

Although Baby Saja doesn’t speak in KPop Demon Hunters, his catchy rap parts in the songs “Soda Pop” and “Your Idol” are performed by Danny Chung. Chung is a rapper and songwriter who contributed to the movie’s soundtrack by co-writing “How It’s Done” and “Soda Pop.” He’s also written songs for the popular group Blackpink.
