Welcome to The End of an Era.
A year after finishing her incredibly successful Eras Tour, Taylor Swift is sharing a look back at the experience with her fans. The first two episodes of her new documentary series, now available on Disney+, offer candid interviews and behind-the-scenes footage of the historic tour, giving viewers an inside look with Taylor and her team.
Taylor Swift explained in the first episode of her documentary, “Welcome to The Eras Tour,” that two difficult experiences led to the creation of The Eras Tour. First, someone bought the rights to her first six albums, taking them away from her. As a result, she decided to proactively re-record all of her music as a way to reclaim it.
As a longtime fan, I was absolutely thrilled when Taylor announced she finally owns all of her music! After years of fighting for it, she made a deal to get the master recordings of her first six albums – Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation – back. She’s explained that going through all of that really made her want to celebrate and honor everything she’s created so far, and I think that’s amazing.
Another factor that led to the tour? The coronavirus pandemic.
Taylor explained in the documentary that songwriting helped her cope during a difficult period. She released the album Folklore early in the pandemic, followed by Evermore just four months later. She hadn’t been on tour for five years, and her fans were eager for a new tour.
And that’s when the planning really began.

As a huge Taylor Swift fan, it was heartbreaking to hear her talk about having to cancel her Vienna shows in August 2024. In the first episode of her series, The End of an Era, she explained that it was due to a serious terror threat – thankfully, the authorities arrested two people who were planning an attack. It’s just awful to think about, but I’m so glad everyone is safe.
Taylor explained that the tour has faced several frightening and dangerous incidents. She described narrowly avoiding a potentially deadly situation and admitted she’s been feeling overwhelmed as a result.
This event happened shortly after a tragic incident in Southport, England, where three children died during a dance class celebrating Taylor Swift’s music.
An emotional shared through tears, “I have a hard time explaining it.”
After the tragic event, Taylor met privately with those who survived the Southport attack and their families, offering support backstage at her concerts in Wembley.
In the docuseries, Taylor and her mother, Andrea Swift, were both seen crying after a conversation. Andrea told Taylor, “I know you helped them. It might not feel like it, but I know you did.”

Taylor was very nervous before performing at Wembley Stadium, especially after the recent upsetting events.
“I just need to do this show,” she told pal Ed Sheeran backstage, “remember the joy of it.”
Taylor went on to explain that after she wraps up her Wembley concerts she’ll have two months off.
She told Ed she needed to disappear, to find a place where she couldn’t be followed. She explained she felt like she was being constantly watched and pursued, and just wanted to escape that feeling.

Recent reports confirmed that Taylor Swift generously gave bonuses to all members of her tour crew – including dancers and musicians – after each segment of the tour wrapped up.
Taylor explained that having a bonus day is crucial, as she wants to establish a positive pattern with The Eras Tour.
She explained that crew members receive larger bonuses when the tour is financially successful. She emphasized how dedicated and talented everyone on the team is, so she personally wrote a handwritten note to each of them. It took her about two weeks, but she enjoyed the process.
And Taylor was on hand to deliver those notes, which brought her team to tears.

Even when Travis Kelce wasn’t with Taylor at the concerts, he was like other fans, searching online for information about The Eras Tour shows.
Travis excitedly told Taylor over the phone before her concerts in Wembley that he really wanted to attend and would be searching online to try and find a way to get tickets.

While putting The Eras Tour together, Taylor turned to a longtime pal for guidance.
I needed a choreographer, so I asked my friend, Emma Stone, who’s done a lot of dancing in movies, for a recommendation. She immediately said, ‘You need to work with Mandy Moore – she’s the only one!’ Taylor explained.
Mandy Moore, a choreographer and separate from the actress with the same name, collaborated with Emma on the 2016 film La La Land.

To keep surprise songs and performances secret – like when Florence Welch joined her on stage for “Florida!!!” – Taylor Swift and her band would lower the volume during rehearsals. They practiced “quietly” so fans gathered outside the stadiums couldn’t overhear what they were playing.
Taylor explained in the second episode of the docuseries, “Magic of the Eras,” that keeping surprises under wraps is exhausting. “I’m tired just thinking about all the effort!” she said. “But seeing it all come together and actually work is totally worth it.”
