Aidan O’Callaghan has officially announced he’s joining Coronation Street. He shared a photo on social media of himself outside the famous Rovers Return pub, confirming earlier reports.
Viewers of the soap opera EastEnders will likely recognize the actor, as he previously played Lewis Butler. Though his role was short, he made a memorable impression as a coworker of Ben Mitchell and a possible romantic partner for him.
Honestly, things got really dark when Lewis attacked Ben – it was awful. That’s why he was written off the show, basically exiled from Walford. Later on, they hinted he’d actually been arrested for another attack, something that happened away from the screen. It was a shocking turn for the character.
O’Callaghan has recently appeared in the Sky police drama Wolfe and the Netflix fantasy series The Witcher: Blood Origin. Before that, he played Mike in a couple of episodes of ITV’s Emmerdale.
This marks the actor’s third role on Coronation Street, and he’ll be appearing in a flashback as a character named Alan. Alan has a connection to the new Driscoll family and his backstory will be revealed through these scenes.
Check out a first look at O’Callaghan on the Coronation Street set below.
Keep an eye out for Maggie and Ben Driscoll, a mother and son from Ireland, who are joining the show soon. Actress Pauline McLynn describes her character, Maggie, as a strong and powerful woman.
The actor is most famous for his roles in the Channel 4 comedies Father Ted and Shameless, the latter of which also featured McCusker.
The Driscolls will be introduced, and we’ll also see Eva Price return – played by Catherine Tyldesley, who you may recognize from ‘The Good Ship Murder’. This time, she’ll be married to Ben.
Kate asked if I’d be interested in managing the property, and I was completely stunned,” she explained. “It’s always been a dream of mine.
O’Callaghan remained tight-lipped about his involvement, offering no clues in his Instagram post, which only said, “Who dis?” The accompanying pictures show him wearing a black and grey striped shirt, relaxed-fit blue jeans, and brown boots.
Is this a vintage look in the present day, or are reports of a flashback correct? We’ll know soon.
Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
