Exciting DCU Release Thrown into Doubt as Fans Spot Concerning Update

Fans were excited about a new DC Universe project, but it may not happen after all. James Gunn, who’s in charge of the DCU, is taking a careful approach and waiting for strong scripts before approving any projects. He understands that rushing production won’t deliver the quality movies and shows fans deserve, so he wants everything perfectly planned. As a result, many previously rumored projects haven’t moved forward, and some have even been canceled. Gunn is focused on releasing only the very best content.

DC Universe Daily noticed that David Jenkins removed all his social media posts about the show and stopped following James Gunn, leading to speculation that the project might be canceled or is being reworked with a new writing team. However, nothing is confirmed as the show hasn’t been officially approved yet.

It appears the Booster Gold TV series might be off the table. David Jenkins, the showrunner, has removed all related posts from his social media and stopped following James Gunn, which is a concerning sign.

There are two likely possibilities: either the show has been cancelled completely, or the project is facing significant changes and a potential overhaul.

What Do David Jenkins Actions Mean for Booster Gold?

David Jenkins is a television writer known for creating the sitcoms Our Flag Means Death (HBO Max) and People of Earth (TBS). He was brought in by James Gunn to write the first episode of a potential Booster Gold series for HBO Max, taking over from Danny McBride, who had originally been assigned the task. Had the script been approved, Jenkins would have also been the show’s executive producer and main creative force, but the series never moved forward.

Since James Gunn became co-head of DCU, he’s rejected many pitches because the scripts didn’t meet his expectations. It appears he also passed on David Jenkins’ work for the Booster Gold series – Jenkins deleted all his posts about the project and stopped following Gunn on social media, suggesting his script wasn’t approved. It’s unclear if this means they’re no longer on good terms, or if Jenkins is simply moving on to other projects. He previously praised Gunn as a major creative influence when he was first hired as the writer.

Just because James Gunn and Peter Safran replaced Drew Jenkins as showrunner doesn’t mean the Booster Gold series is canceled. Originally, Danny McBride was involved, and he’s known for successful shows like HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones. He left the project voluntarily, either due to personal reasons or a lack of interest. Safran also admitted they hadn’t fully finalized the series at the time, and Gunn stated the scripts needed more work. Now that Jenkins is gone, Booster Gold won’t move forward until Gunn is satisfied with the script.
