ComicBook has a special first look at a clip from Monarch Season 2, highlighting the central question of the series: Can humans and Titans coexist? Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, a spin-off of the Monsterverse films featuring Godzilla and Kong, delves into life in a world constantly threatened by these massive creatures. Season 2 of Monarch specifically focuses on whether humanity can find a way to live alongside the Titans instead of simply fighting to survive.
ComicBook is sharing a sneak peek from Season 2, Episode 6 of Monarch. The clip shows a meeting between a young Lee Shaw (Wyatt Russell) and his father (Bill Sage), where Lee tries to impress him with his accomplishments at Monarch. However, his father quickly cuts him off, stating that when it comes to battling Titans, the only thing that truly matters is victory.
Will Lee Shaw Embrace His Father’s Philosophy?
The characters in Monarch face a desperate struggle. The Titans don’t seem to care about people or our way of life, and while a few humans can connect with creatures like Godzilla, they all pose a threat to modern cities and technology. This is largely because the Titans are ancient forces of nature, and our technological progress has thrown the natural world out of balance. Godzilla, especially, works to maintain that balance and keep everything in check.
Lee is torn between two different ways of thinking. Keiko and Bill have taught him that people and Titans can coexist if they try to understand each other, but his military training emphasizes the need to be stronger and control the situation. His father embodies this second viewpoint, believing humans and Titans are natural enemies. For his father, the only thing that matters is who comes out on top.
It’s a troubling question, but Lee’s father raises a valid point. Titans are so destructive that they either need to be kept far away from people, or eliminated to prevent loss of life. However, Keiko and Bill believe that wiping out Titans would harm the world and humanity in a fundamental way. While this seems like the most important issue, simply asking the question might not lead to a useful answer.
