Expensive Pokemon Games Could Finally Begin Plummeting in Price

As a big Pokémon fan, I’ve been hoping for this for ages! It looks like Nintendo might finally do something about the crazy resale prices of older games. Seriously, if you’ve tried to buy a Game Boy Advance, DS, or even GameCube Pokémon game recently, you know they can cost anywhere from $50 to over $300! It’s ridiculous. Hopefully, this new move from Nintendo means we’ll finally see those prices come down in the near future – fingers crossed!

Nintendo announced today that Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen are coming to both the Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 next week, on February 27th. This is the first time these classic Pokemon games have been released on Switch since the console launched in 2017, making them much easier to play for fans. It could also affect how much used copies of the games are worth.

As a big Pokémon fan, I’m really excited about this new launch, and I think it’s going to affect the price of the original FireRed and LeafGreen games for Game Boy Advance. Right now, just the game cartridge alone usually costs around $140! A complete copy, with the box and manual, can go for $300 to $400. While those complete copies will probably stay pricey, I’m guessing loose cartridges will come down in price a bit. Since FireRed and LeafGreen are now easier to get on Switch, fewer people will be hunting down the original versions. Honestly, if you’ve been wanting to add these GBA games to your collection, now might be the perfect time to find a good deal!

Could More Pokemon Games Be Re-Released Soon?

If the recent release of older Pokémon games is any indication, Nintendo might start bringing more classic titles to the Switch. Currently, games like Pokémon Emerald, HeartGold/SoulSilver, and Black/White are only available on their original consoles, which drives up their resale prices to incredibly high levels. Releasing these games on the Switch would not only be a significant revenue boost for Nintendo, but it could also help lower prices for collectors and fans.

Alternatively, The Pokemon Company might be planning to release Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen on the Nintendo Switch to mark the 30th anniversary of the Pokemon series. Although these aren’t the very first games, they’re remakes of the originals, suggesting Nintendo and The Pokemon Company could simply be paying tribute to the series’ beginnings. Hopefully, this isn’t all they have planned, and we’ll see more games like this become available in the future.
