Factorio – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition announced

Wube Software is bringing Factorio to the new Nintendo Switch 2. They plan to release it as soon as it’s ready, ideally in December. Current Factorio owners on the original Switch will get the upgrade for free. The ‘Space Age’ expansion will also be available on the Switch 2 at launch.

You can currently play Factorio on PC through Steam, GOG, the Humble Store, or by downloading it directly. It’s also available on Nintendo Switch.

Here is an overview of the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, via Wube Software:

Factorio – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

As a huge fan, I’m so excited they’re releasing a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of the game! If you already own it on the original Switch, you can upgrade to this version. If you’re new to the game, you can grab it as a bundle with the upgraded Switch 2 Edition included. Nintendo has all the details and explained how it works on their website.

The upgraded version will feature:

  • Better resolution. The game will run on the screen’s native 1080p resolution instead of 720p. When docked, it supports all resolutions, including 2160p (4K).
  • Variable refresh rate support for the console’s screen.
  • Some higher quality animations.
  • Some higher resolution sprites.
  • Other visual improvements.
  • Faster loading times.
  • Ability to build much larger bases.
  • Mouse mode support. Using the Joy-Con Mouse Sensor, the left or right Joy-Con can be used as a mouse.

This upgrade is completely free. We think it’s unfair to charge players for technical improvements. If you’d like to support our work and enjoy even more content, you can purchase the “Space Age” expansion.

Expansion Downloadable Content “Space Age”

We’re excited to share that “Space Age” is launching soon as downloadable content for the Switch 2! It will cost $35 and includes everything from the PC version – no content has been cut.

For full details on the “Space Age” expansion, check out the “Space Age” content page.

Release Date

The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Factorio and its “Space Age” downloadable content will be released simultaneously. The exact release date is still to be determined, but the developers are aiming for as soon as they can make it available.

Similar to the original Switch launch, getting everything approved and set up in the online stores takes time. I want to avoid setting a release date too far in advance, but I also don’t want to announce a date we can’t meet.

We’re hoping to have it available in December, which would make it a great gift before Christmas. This isn’t a firm date, just our current goal.
