Hiro Mashima is a highly acclaimed manga artist who has been creating comics since 1998. He’s known for numerous series, but he’s most famous for Fairy Tail, a popular action-fantasy series published in Weekly Shonen Jump. Fairy Tail has gained a large following due to its imaginative world, compelling characters, and unique magic system. Mashima’s work has earned him international praise, including a Kodansha Manga Award in 2009.
The original Fairy Tail manga ran from 2006 to 2017, and in 2018, Hiro Mashima launched a sequel, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, with artwork by Atsuo Ueda. While A-1 Pictures has adapted the entire main story into an anime, the sequel anime, produced by J.C. Staff, is waiting for news about a second season after its first season ended in January 2025. Mashima continues to create new works, but Fairy Tail is still incredibly popular. This year marks the manga’s 20th anniversary, and the creator is celebrating with a special illustration featuring the fan-favorite characters.

The new artwork features the popular characters from Fairy Tail – Natsu, Lucy, Grey, Wendy, Happy, Carla, and Erza, who is proudly holding a flag celebrating the series’ 20th anniversary. Reaching this milestone is a big achievement for any manga, and the creators have promised more celebrations to come. Creator Hiro Mashima announced on X (formerly Twitter) that this year marks 20 years of Fairy Tail, thanking fans for their support and teasing exciting plans for the anniversary. He encourages everyone to stay tuned for more updates!
Mashima’s editor shared exciting news on X (formerly Twitter), building on a post from Comic Natalie. They announced that 2026 will be the 20th anniversary of Fairy Tail, promising fans a year full of celebrations!
I’m so excited! These recent posts have gotten a huge reaction from fans, and everyone’s buzzing about what’s coming this year. We’re all trying to figure out what the big deal is, but so far, it’s still a mystery! The anniversary is in July, and it looks like the celebrations are starting early, which definitely hints at some major surprises. Even though the main story is finished, I’m hoping we’ll see some cool special projects – maybe a movie, a spin-off show, or even a revival of the anime! I can’t wait to find out what they have planned.
The manga continues to be released, but the 2024 anime adaptation by J.C. Staff received a lot of criticism for its animation. There’s a chance we’ll hear more about the anime later this year. You can watch all seasons of the original series and the sequel on Crunchyroll, making it a great time to revisit the show while we wait for news about what’s coming next.
