Fake Curve Finance app scams users, tops global finance charts

As a seasoned crypto investor with over a decade of experience in this wild world of digital assets, I’ve seen my fair share of scams and impersonations. The latest one posing as Curve Finance on the Apple app store is just another reminder that we should always stay vigilant in this space.

A counterfeit application posing as the decentralized finance (DeFi) platform Curve Finance has gained traction in the Apple app store, ranking among the top 100 finance apps on Oct. 26.

Although repeatedly marked as potentially fraudulent by various users, the app continues to gain popularity in areas such as Europe, Latin America, New Zealand, the U.S., and Southeast Asia. This trend exposes unaware users to potential risks.

However, the app’s poorly crafted store description could still impact vulnerable users. It states: “Curve defi v3 is an amazing app. Arrange the blocks to make a perfect row and clear it!”

CryptoMoon contacted Curve Finance for comment but received no response before publication.

Impersonating Curve Finance

The deceptive app called “Curve defi v3,” created by “Tao Duong Van,” fools users by copying the Curve Finance emblem and replicating the functions of the genuine Curve system, leading them to believe they’re using the real thing.

The app boasts capabilities such as token exchanges, yield farming through staking, and Decentralized Finance (DeFi) services; however, every user review has given it a dismal rating of one out of five stars, with many labeling it as either a “scam” or “hacked”.

One image the fraudulent app uses states that it boasts over “30 million global users,” attempting to establish false credibility and convince victims to download and use it.

Social media warning

The fake Curve Finance Apple store app was highlighted in a post on X by user fintech engineer and app store scam identifier Babu.

“His tweet was one of the initial ones to pinpoint the problem, mentioning the official Curve Finance X account and urging users to remain cautious and report any questionable applications.

As a cautious crypto investor, I urge everyone to steer clear of any suspicious apps that might be masquerading as genuine ones on the Apple App Store. If you encounter such an app, promptly report it to Apple for further investigation and refrain from engaging with it until it’s confirmed safe.

Fool me once…

Previously, a deceptive app posing as Curve Finance was mistakenly added to the authentic Apple App Store.

On February 14th, Curve Finance alerted its X community to exercise caution against potential scams. It was revealed that there’s no genuine DeFi Curve App available on any app store following the discovery of a fraudulent app bearing the DeFi platform’s logo.

An unauthorized application, falsely attributed to MK Technology as the developer, boasted a rating of 4.6 stars out of 5 from nine user reviews. It marketed itself as a robust tool for effectively handling borrowers and their respective loans.
