Fallout 5 will be affected by the Fallout TV series — “We are taking that into account,” says Bethesda’s Todd Howard

Now that Season 2 of the Fallout TV show is out, fans are curious about how – or if – the show’s story will connect to the next Fallout video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios.

Todd Howard, the executive producer and director at Bethesda Game Studios, confirmed with BBC shortly after the season launched, simply stating, “Yes, that’s right.”

According to Todd Howard, Fallout 5 will be set in a world where the events of the TV show have either happened or are currently unfolding, and the game’s development will reflect that.

That’s understandable, because the Fallout TV show isn’t a retelling of any specific game’s story. It’s a brand new story set within the Fallout universe, and actually takes place *after* the events of all the games, making it the newest chapter in the Fallout timeline.

Naturally, the team at Bethesda Game Studios will definitely consider and likely include references to past events when creating Fallout 5.

Let’s be realistic: Fallout 5 is still a long way off. While Bethesda Game Studios has expanded since being acquired by Microsoft, the team is currently split. Some developers are focused on updates and new content for their 2023 game, Starfield, and others are still supporting Fallout 76. This means a new mainline Fallout game isn’t in active development yet.

Bethesda Game Studios’ biggest team is currently developing The Elder Scrolls 6, their next major release. While the game isn’t coming out for a while yet, work on it has officially begun.

The second season of the Fallout TV show is now out, and you can only watch it on Prime Video.
