The video game adaptation, Fallout, is proving to be a huge success for Prime Video, and a third season starring Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins is already in the works.
Fallout season 2 follows the adventures of Lucy MacLean, a determined survivor, and The Ghoul, a hardened mercenary, as they travel through the ruined landscape of post-apocalyptic America. The show is based on the popular, darkly humorous Fallout video game series.
They arrived in New Vegas, a famous city from the Fallout video games, and uncovered some surprising truths, though not the answers The Ghoul (formerly Cooper Howard) had been seeking.
Fallout season 3 release date speculation
Prime Video has officially greenlit a third season of Fallout, but fans may have to wait a while before the next adventure begins in the post-apocalyptic world.
Although the show was renewed early in May 2025, the scripts were still under development as of December, according to Todd Howard of Bethesda (as reported by Variety).
Jonathan Nolan, the executive producer, told IGN they were aiming to begin filming in the summer of 2026. ProductionList later specified a target start date of May 1st.
Nolan said he’s pleased that the show continues to be ambitious, and that despite this, the talented cast and crew were able to resume production and air new episodes relatively quickly.

The increasing gap between seasons of TV shows is a bit of a problem. We aim to return to production and air new episodes quickly to avoid losing the momentum and quality of the show.
Fans will likely be happy to hear that Fallout season 3 is expected to arrive sometime between late 2027 and 2028. Considering how development is going, it will probably take 18 to 24 months to be released.

Fallout season 3 cast speculation
While the full list of actors hasn’t been announced yet, Ella Purnell and Walton Goggins are likely to return as Lucy MacLean and The Ghoul in the third season of Fallout.
We can probably expect to see more of the main actors from Fallout, including Aaron Moten (who plays Maximus), Kyle MacLachlan (Hank MacLean), Moisés Arias (Norm MacLean), and Frances Turner (Barb Howard), join the project.
Sadly, not all characters survive, and viewers were surprised when Xander Harkness (Kumail Nanjiani, known from Eternals and Taskmaster) was killed off after just two episodes.

Fallout season 3 plot speculation
We don’t know many specifics about what will happen in Fallout season 3, but Todd Howard, the head of Bethesda, has hinted at a stronger connection between the show and the Fallout video games.
