Ella Purnell first gained widespread recognition in Yellowjackets, but because her character, Jackie, died in the first season, she had more availability than her fellow actors. This allowed her to star as Lucy in the popular adaptation of the Fallout video game series, which significantly boosted her career. Fallout Season 2 became a huge streaming hit, staying at the top of the charts for weeks. Although Fallout isn’t currently number one due to newer shows, another project starring Purnell has recently entered the top 10.
Lauren Purnell has consistently played compelling characters. In Yellowjackets, she portrayed a teenager who stayed true to her values even in extreme circumstances, and in Fallout, her character Lucy is inspiring, though her protected upbringing sometimes makes her a bit innocent. Her new Starz series shows a different side of Purnell, as she plays a character driven to revenge after being pushed to her limits. The show’s title, Sweetpea, is ironic because it’s a belittling nickname given to her by her boss.
If you’re in the US, you can watch the show on Starz. However, viewers around the world are loving Sweetpea, and it’s currently the #7 most popular show on Prime Video globally. Here’s a look at the top 10 TV shows on Prime Video worldwide, as of March 9th:
| 1 | Young Sherlock |
| 2 | 56 Days |
| 3 | Cross |
| 4 | Fallout |
| 5 | Beast Games |
| 6 | Yo soy Betty la fea |
| 7 | Sweetpea |
| 8 | Siren’s Kiss |
| 9 | Steal |
| 10 | The Night Manager |
The question of how this popularity will impact the series’ future, however, is yet to be seen.
‘Sweetpea’ Will Return…at Some Point

Sky Atlantic
Fans who binged the first season of Sweetpea on Starz in 2024 didn’t have to wait long for news that it was coming back for a second season. The show is based on CJ Skuse’s novel of the same name, and while it wasn’t a strict adaptation, it acted as both a fresh take and a backstory to the book, which begins with the main character, Rhiannon (known as Sweetpea), already experienced with killing. Because of this, we can expect Season 2 to more closely follow the events of the original novel.
I’m so excited about Walton Goggins, but it’s a little frustrating that right after Sweetpea came out, he got pulled into filming Season 2 of Fallout! Thankfully, they finished Sweetpea pretty late in 2025, so I’m hoping we don’t have to wait too long for those new episodes – I’m guessing we’ll see them sometime in 2026.
A Bigger and Bloodier New Season
Many viewers are comparing the show to Dexter because it mixes violence with dramatic and darkly funny moments, making us surprisingly sympathetic to the main character, Rhiannon, even when she’s ruthless. The trailer clearly shows this blend of horror and humor, and the creator has hinted that the series will become even more intense.
In December, actor Purnell hinted that Season 2 would be much more intense than the first. He told Deadline that while Season 1 was relatively mild, the new season is significantly bigger and more chaotic, packed with a lot more content.
What makes continuing the series so promising is that the original books have five volumes, giving the creators a lot of material to adapt for future episodes or seasons.
