A new spin-off series centered around Stewie Griffin is coming, but fans of Family Guy don’t need to worry – Stewie will still appear in the original show. Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, is experienced with spin-offs and other animated shows, as evidenced by the huge number of hours people have recently streamed his work. This isn’t the first time Family Guy has explored a spin-off, having previously given a major character their own series.
When Family Guy created the spinoff The Cleveland Show, Cleveland Brown left the original series for several seasons to star in the new show. However, details recently released about the upcoming Stewie spinoff reveal that Stewie will be attending a new school but will still appear in Family Guy. This is good news, as it was a concern that a spinoff might mean a character leaving the main show.
Stewie Won’t Leave Family Guy for New Spinoff
Stewie, the popular character from Family Guy, is getting his own spinoff show! The new series will focus on him attending a different preschool after getting expelled from his current one, and he’ll be using his gadgets to improve things. Luckily, this doesn’t mean Stewie will disappear from Family Guy altogether – he’ll still be part of the main show. Unlike Cleveland Brown, who was absent for many seasons without being greatly missed, Stewie is a crucial part of the Griffin family and many of the show’s best moments.
The upcoming Stewie spinoff introduces a new school setting and characters. After being kicked out of his old preschool, Stewie has to attend a less-than-stellar one filled with unfamiliar kids and a very opinionated, 75-year-old turtle. Everyone is unhappy at first, but things change when Stewie starts using his inventions to take the class on wild, time-traveling adventures, making school anything but boring.
When Does Family Guy’s Stewie Spinoff Come Out?

Currently, there’s no confirmed release date for the new series, Stewie, but it’s being produced by 20th Television and Hulu. Seth MacFarlane is creating the show with Kirker Butler, who has worked on Family Guy for many years. The plan is to air episodes on Fox in the 2027-2028 TV season and then make them available to stream on Hulu the very next day. Because the show is still in development, many details are still being figured out.
I’ve noticed that Family Guy is a huge presence on Fox already, and with American Dad! back on the air, Seth MacFarlane has even more shows on the network. Now that American Dad! is starting its third season, I worry it might run into the same problem The Cleveland Show did – there’s a risk viewers will see all these shows as too similar and lose interest.
