The popular game show Wheel of Fortune will be back on TV in 2025, continuing to entertain audiences with its classic puzzles and exciting prizes. The show has evolved in recent years, most notably with Ryan Seacrest taking on the hosting role. Recently, a new puzzle type called “What the Fun?” was added to the game, but a concerned group is now speaking out against this change, explaining their objections.
One Million Moms, a division of the American Family Association, has repeatedly voiced concerns about content in television and movies. Recently, they’ve objected to a new category on Wheel of Fortune. They believe the category’s name, “What the Fun?”, subtly implies a curse word by using “Fun” as a stand-in for a profanity, and consider this an unsuitable choice.
One Million Moms believes viewers may be surprised to learn that the Wheel of Fortune game show has changed. They’re concerned a new puzzle category, ‘What the Fun,’ includes suggestive content and language that isn’t appropriate for families.
The Organization for Moral Media (OMM) aims to promote what it considers positive values, particularly in entertainment aimed at children and teens. In 2020, they criticized Disney’s The Owl House because of its depiction of witchcraft, which they labeled harmful. More recently, in late 2024, the group gained attention for condemning the musical Wicked for similar reasons, and for what they claimed was the promotion of LGBTQ+ themes. Even Hallmark’s holiday movies weren’t exempt from criticism, due to the inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters and storylines.
As of today, a petition from One Million Moms calling for the removal of a new puzzle category on Wheel of Fortune has gathered over 12,700 signatures. The group claims the show is intentionally featuring controversial topics instead of family-friendly content, which they consider unacceptable. They specifically object to what they see as implied profanity, calling it disrespectful to families.
The show has declined in quality due to the inclusion of offensive language. This is inappropriate for any program, particularly one intended for family viewing. Parents will now have to explain to their children why a show they used to enjoy is no longer suitable for all ages.
Wow, things have been crazy for Wheel of Fortune lately! It feels like just yesterday Ryan Seacrest was celebrating the first million-dollar winner while he’s been hosting, and then there was all that drama with Derek Hough supposedly jumping on the wheel during a break on Celebrity Wheel. Honestly, I’m wondering if this latest ‘What the Fun?’ situation will keep making news, but so far, the show hasn’t said anything about it.
You can still watch Wheel of Fortune every day! It’s shown on local stations, so check your TV guide to find out when it’s on in your city.
