
Anime fans were surprised at Anime Expo earlier this year with the announcement that *Gate* would be returning after being off television for many years. Although a release date hasn’t been announced yet, Studio M2 is already giving fans a sneak peek at *Gate 2*. To build excitement for the sequel, which features a clash between modern military forces and magical enemies, M2 has released a new preview that’s expected to generate a lot of buzz in the anime community.
Studio M2 has announced a new season of *GATE*, titled *GATE 2: Tides of Conflict*, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the original anime! The *GATE* series, written by Takumi Yanai and published by AlphaPolis, has been incredibly popular, selling over 7.3 million copies (including digital versions) as of June 2024. Known for its mix of military action, political drama, and fantasy, *GATE 2* will return to the beloved world fans already know. It features characters Hajime Tokushima, a member of the Maritime Self-Defense Force, and the princess Primera Luna Avion, alongside a submarine. The image captures the core themes of the series. Want to know more about *Gate 2: Tides of Conflict*? Here’s what the new series is about: It’s been years since the gate to another world opened in Tokyo, and Japan now carefully controls travel through it. The Japanese military explores the new land and its seas. Petty Officer Hajime Tokushima, a former chef, is now part of a submarine crew led by Captain Edajima. Their task is to sneak into Tinae and rescue a kidnapped journalist. During their mission, they team up with Princess Primera, the pirate Shura no Arch, and the magical Ship Guardian, Odette Ze Nebula. Together, they’ll battle wars, pirate fleets, and terrifying sea monsters, pushing their limits as they try to succeed.
Along with the announcement, the creator of *Gate*, Takumi Yanai, shared a message expressing his excitement for the anime adaptation of *Gate 2: Tides of Conflict*. He described pouring his own thoughts and feelings into the story and expressed deep gratitude to the team bringing it to life through animation. Yanai hopes the story will resonate with audiences in Japan and around the world, and asks everyone to embrace it.
